Grooming Newbie Okay so I'm taking Teddy to the groomer tomorrow, one that was recommended by another YT member however i am still very nervous. I've heard a lot of grooming horror stories on here. So they said that they are going to play with him and everything but I was wondering what kind of questions I should ask them I think I'm going to keep him in a puppy cut. |
Can you stay? That's what I did with Lexi, the first time. I know that dogs might tend to "act up" more with their people there than they might if their people weren't there, but... I have to say that I am glad I stayed because although there was nothing outright horrible, I didn't care for the experience. And I always wonder if things would have been worse if I hadn't been there... I didn't leave Lexi with her second groomer, but she came recommended, and she breeds and shows Yorkies. Also, in speaking with her, I was happy with the things she said. They made me feel comfortable in leaving her there, although there was a big part of me that wanted to stay. It ended up working out really well, and Lexi is so much better about letting me brush her, and I can actually get in a topknot every day - without being punctured by little canine teeth (double)!!! Either way, I hope it all goes well for you. :) |
I applied to a groomer for a job. I offered to do a free hour to see how I liked it. First off, the groomer had meuse this spray thing that was way to powerful for little dogs.... I was bathing a maltise. Second she had a bunch of cages lined up in a row and she just threw the wet dogs in the cage and turned a COLD FAN on them... Horrible!!! Third she walked away from the dog she was grooming a few times to answer the phone, and see how I was doing. the dog was on a high table with a rope around his neck and she walked away!!! I would never leave my babies at a groomer. I would want to stay. I would ask where they are kept, it there a fan, or heater to dry them, How hot does it get. I would make sure the groomer was never going to leave the table while my dog was on it. A groomer once told me that she has seen MANY dogs hit the floor and the owners are never told about it. |
Despite what, I think, some YTers think, not all groomers are bad. How you researched this particular groomer and looked for reviews online? I would ask them how long it is going to take and if they can call you plenty of time in advance of when he will be ready. Be very specific with what you would like. Don't assume that they will or won't do anything. I think it helps a great deal if you have a picture. Look around when you drop him off and make everything is acceptable for you. If you aren't comfortable, leave. :) Good luck! I'm sure he'll do fine. ETA: Also, if the groomer is far from your home, it'd try to stay close by (maybe you could go shopping or something) in case you are needed. |
thank-you guys I'm feeling a bit more confident I go in 20 min so we'll see how it goes. :S |
How did it go today? :) |
