Grooming ?? Eye Gunk Does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning the eye discharge on your YT? I have read online to use a wet cloth but it doesnt seem to be working and she struggles to get away. It got so bad one time I cut it out with scissors. Thanks |
I wet it, then comb it with flea comb. I do it as a part of her daily brushing so it doesn't get too bad. |
I take a warm wet cloth to it then I take a flea comb through it |
My dog has a lot of gunk also. I use a warm wash cloth and rub gently. I try to work it out slowly. There are also wipes out there. If you are worried about discoloration there are products for that. I use Diamond Eye ocassionally. My girl doesn't like this either, but someone has to be the top dog and that's me. She is doing much better with it lately. Maybe she's just realizing I'm going to do it anyway. Good luck. |
I use a couple q-tips dipped in warm water. I think the key is to move slowly and confidently. Thor used to fight it a bit, but now he stays relaxed and keeps his head still until I'm finished. |
their are products out there sold at pet stores for eye gunk removal . |
They are definitely going to squirm You need to hold them firmly and make it clear that you are going to gentle but that you will not be deterred |

eye gunk I use very soft baby washcloths with warm water and Johnson & Johnson Baby Soap. I clean the area every day just to prevent a big build up. Kiki doesn't mind it at all anymore, she actually just sits there and lets me clean her face now. Aftewards I use a small flea comb and comb the area very well right below the eyes. Whatever I didn't get out with the washcloth, gets caught in the flea comb. Anna Dog profile for Kiki, a female Yorkshire Terrier |
I use Shaw's Pretty Eyes on a lint free pad & then gently brush under the eyes with a tiny, very soft baby's toothbrush. xx Meggie |
the easiest way to do it is with a flea comb.. comes out 1 2 3. i do it every single morning along with our daily grooming routine |
