bath time (and a few other questions) my fur baby hates baths! i give him a treat after hes all done but is there any way to make bath time more enjoyable? I would love for him to be a water loving dog...but i dont see it in his future! also, my baby's ears still are not standing up right. They sometimes pop up but just for a second, how can i get them to stand up without taping them? is it true that male dogs will gain a bunch of weight after they are neutered? My friends yorkie was neutered at 8 months (7 lbs) and after that he doubled his weight (14 lbs!) |
my fur baby hates baths! i give him a treat after hes all done but is there any way to make bath time more enjoyable? I would love for him to be a water loving dog...but i dont see it in his future! Unfortunately, some dogs will hate baths forever! Maggie hides when we start to walk towards the bathroom.. also, my baby's ears still are not standing up right. They sometimes pop up but just for a second, how can i get them to stand up without taping them? You can try shaving the hair off so that they're lighter and massage them a couple of times a day to get the blood flowing. is it true that male dogs will gain a bunch of weight after they are neutered? My friends yorkie was neutered at 8 months (7 lbs) and after that he doubled his weight (14 lbs!) It is true that a dog's metabolism slows down after they are spayed/neutered but the weight gain is totally in your control! You can exercise them more and lower the calorie intake. Of course, at 8 months, your friend's dog was still growing. He was most likely destined to be 14lbs all all along! Dogs won't GROW bigger because they were spayed or neutered but they may put on a couple of pounds if you don't watch them. |
Both my boys hated baths at first. They seem to enjoy them now. I usually try to get them relaxed first. I hold them for a bit and massage them. I also massage them while I'm bathing them. They seem to relax and really enjoy it. You can try a treat while bathing to see if that helps. How old is your baby? I don't know of any other way to get the ears to stand except taping if they don't stand naturally. Jake's ears have always been up, while Jackson's are up and down. I have never heard of males gaining weight after neutering. That's a new one for me, so I can't help you there. Good luck with the bathing. It will get easier. |

Can you tell what is bothering him when you give him a bath? Sometimes it is the sound of the water rather than the actual water, and they can get cold too. I use a rubber hose with a little sprayer on the end. It fits over my faucet. So my dogs don't have to be "in" the water all the time. I keep the water really warm (not hot) and move as quickly as I can. I'm careful not to get water or soap in their eyes or on the end of the nose. Also, I talk to them all the time, encouraging them. So far, all of mine have adjusted well to bathing. I can't say they love it, but they all behave quite well and cooperate. For me, that is as much as I can ask of them. Wishing you lots of luck. |
Rocco isn't crazy about his baths, but he loves the warmth of the hair dryer. My dog loves heat! When we had our other yorkie, Bella I had a hard time getting her ears to stand up. I was told to tape the upper half of the sides together after no luck with shaving her ears did not work. I ended up using fake eyelash glue for a few weeks and glued the sides together. I swear by this! I worked for my vet at the time and he said it was a great idea! |
First time I gave Millie a bath I gave treats throughout the hole thing LOL She got treats to get in the tub, when I wet her fur, when I shampooed and rinsed her, when I was towel drying her She is not crazy about it but it won;t run from it at all. As someone said, it's important to be quick don;t waist much time rubbing and scrubbing and they will get cold even if the temperature is warm Praising your puppy during the hole process is good too. Talk to them. It's just like training them. Don;t show too much apprehension as they quick can pick on it and get nervous also. Last but not least, wait to wet their head and clean their ears last as they will be less annoyed with the water and not so cold Hope this helps :) |

I glued the top half of th ears together! |
I taped Millie's ears based in this website below info. My job wasn't so good as the pics in the site but worked well. I kept the tape for 3 days only because my husband was so sorry for her that I decided to take the first tape out and do it again. Well, I took it off and left her 12 hour without it and the ears never came down again. To make the little poles to put in the inside I used cotton rolled in the tape since I didn;t have the dentist absorber she mentions. Sometimes I think they are a little bit spread apart in her head, but most of the time (99%) it looks perfect Question My Yorkie puppy's ears are flopping down. Is there anything I can do? http://www.shooterdog.com/alexfaq.htm#QUES I hope this helps Right now I can;t find pics of her with the ears taped  I will post some if I do |
yeah this is the web site i looked at too! however, i wasnt sure about sticking the pole thing inside his ears...i kinda made up my own system that seems to be working...only one of his ears is sticking up now, so ill probably have to re do the other one but he looks so cute with one up and one down!! :D |
Mine go hide when they see me take out the shampoo, and towel. It's so funny. I have to chase them around the house. |
How often does everyone wash their puppies? if they do not have dry skin, is it OK to wash them once a week? |

if you want him to be able to go in the water, outside the bath.. i would think he would have a different reaction to this.. but i could be wrong  ;) Quote:
