Too late to tape? :confused:I tried taping Zaccheus' ears when he was very young, and it worked. But then they started flopping again when he started teething. I taped them again, and they came back up. It didn't take long, though, and they went right back to flopping, and I decided that he must just have floppy ears, like most of his siblings and parents. Now he is eight months old, and I wish sometimes they stood up like one of his sisters'. Is it too late to tape them again, or does my Zacchie just have floppy ears? |
have you tried shaving his ears. That is usually all it takes to get them to stand up. |
Some people say they flop again around 6-8 months when they are getting their second teeth in. Do you keep the top third of the ear shaved? For droppy ears, some people shave the whole ear, some shave and tape, and some add additional calcium to the diet. I would try taping them one more time, but remember to keep the hair trimmed on the ear. |
His ears are completely shaved. where would I find calcium for him, and how much would I give him? |

are your dogs ears thick or large? If so, they may never stand. My little biewer has little ears and they're not thick at all, they kind of droop or when she runs they kind of flop a little. I just keep taping. Taped one the other day for 3 days and now have the other one taped up. I think her ears are just lazy. |

Pic on the right is Roxy. Cricket is on the left. I don't have any recent pictures of the little man. He's camera shy, and won't put his ears up at all. |
Your vet should have calcium supplements - Pet-Cal is one brand. I give my females some of this (usually 1/2 tablet a day) when they are pregnant and nursing. Absorption is always a problem with Calcium. I also give a tablespoon of cottage cheese to my dogs every day. But I have to say, I have a puppy that is 4 months and I am fighting to keep the tips of her ears up too right now. So, I'm not sure the extra calcium is a total answer. Good luck. |
I have heard that massaging the ears will also help them stand. Just massage them a few times a day and that is supposed to help strengthen them. Good luck! |

I tried the massaging, didn't work for me. Both your babies are adorable |

So I can't imagine that she had help of any sort to get her ears to stand, but they do! In fact, before she came along, I had no idea that they were supposed to be up. I didn't really see the beauty of her ears until I came to YT, and saw all the beautiful babies here. I preferred Cricket's ears, which flop just at the tips. But I would LOVE for Zacchie's ears to be up like Roxy's! |
