coat problems: breakage and rough Hello My gidgets coat is never been silky, but its always been ok, never a fast grower which is fine with me, she had puppies back in sept, they are all gone now, but i noticed her coat, mainly on her neck and shoulders has gotten coarse and broken down pretty short i feed eukanuba to them all. what conditioners will help? or any other suggestions? |
I had a very experienced breeder/handler suggest using Biolage Ultra Hydrating conditioner as a "deep conditioning" treatment. After bathing with a normal shampoo, coat the pup in the Biolage and massage into coat.....then use your blow dryer to heat their coat slightly and then wrap in a warm towel and hold them for 15-20 minutes......then wash out as normal. I have done this on several dogs and have seen excellent results......If the coat is really dry, try this twice a week. Once I get a coat well conditioned (using the above for several weeks or more as needed), then I switch to keeping them in oil. (I prefer straight olive oil.) I have also seen good coat growth by using Summerwinds Healthy Coat or Missing Link. |
thank you where can i find Biolage Ultra Hydrating conditioner ? i did missing link for a while and hadnt noticed a difference maybe i will try it again and with the olive oil do you put that on the food or the actual coat and how much? |
Biolage products are sold mostly at Salons - JC Penney carries it along with the salons that are sometimes in Walmarts. You can get a tube or a jar of this conditioner. The olive oil goes on their coat.....just rub a little (between the size of a dime and a nickel - depending on the size of the dog) on your hands and then through the coat starting at the ends. Since this product is fairly heavy....I keep a something down over my furniture. (I know some people will put them in a crate for a little while after putting on the oil to help with issues of them getting on everything.) I did find that the Summerwinds Healthy Coat got quicker results - especially on a coat in alot of need.....where the Missing Link does better as a "maintenance" product - as results are slower to see. |
thank you!! |
