NO hair breakage Hi everyone I have food for thought. I ask this question because one of my boys had a bout of diarreha and I had to wash him way to much to be blow drying each time. So I let him air dry and boy does his hair feel like a million bucks.what a total difference.I was so impressed I washed the others and let them air dry and just beautiful. I believe now this is how I will always do it as the difference is so nice I'm thinking the blow drying is drying the hair out.(even on low setting with oil as I use to do) So for those of you who do and those who don't (blow dry that is) what do you notice about your dogs coat. Disclaimer:carefully comb the hair out after washing then let air dry if you wish to try this and if so add oil to the water and rinse well. |
In summer time. when I give Max a bath during the day, that's the way I do it, air dry leaves his hair softer and smelling fresh, and on a sunny day, hair dries even faster than with a blow dryer |
I also think it will help with hair breakage because you are not stressing the hair shaft by constant combing. I will definately see how this works out. |
I've never used a hairdrier on Littlest Mac yet. I let him run around the kitchen after a good towel-drying and some cuddling in another dry towel. :D Never had any hair issues with him. Mac is almost 10 months old. :animal36 |
do you keep your little guy in full coat? from my experience blow drying was breaking my dogs hair all the way down to the 7 mth old. I bought a tiny blow dryer and put it on the coolest setting with the same results.the hair was dryer and tangled much more.so far no tangles at all with air dry and I believe the hair will lengthen up soon enough. |
Do your dogs have silky coats or cottony coats? Would it work for both types? |
gzarr that I really don't know from all I have read I think mine have a modified coat texture,not cotton ,not silk but a mix of the two. but I think it would work for both.on a full cotton coat I would definately use oil in the rinse |

I am new to the Yorkie thing. What kind of oil are you talking about. My girl's hair breaks terrible. She leaves hair everywhere. I am switching her food, but could it also be the way I am grooming her, or not grooming her? I don't use a hair dryer ever, but I have never used oil. |

Thanks Journey, and I don't mean to steal your thread. I am soaking up so much information here, and I wish I would have found this site long ago. What you say, does describe my Cha Cha. The red leg thing. I noticed the other day that she has split ends. LOL. So, what kind of oil do I use on her? I am not complaining about her coat because you are right I think it makes grooming easier, but she looks like a lion because the front half of her is long and full and the back half is short and dense and she is not scratching it off. It does appear to be regrowing nicely however. So, when you say to oil her, please tell me what yo mean......:confused: |
