Hair Cuts - A Nightmare! Audrey is about 5 y/o now, and I've had her since she was 8 weeks. I've bathed her every week since I bought her, and while she is okay with bathing, she - will - not - let - me - cut - her - hair! When she was younger I used scissors. I attempted to get the strays and straggles and around her butt. She would snip at the scissors as if they were attacking her. I'd continued trying, in attempt to make her get used to it. She's been to a groomer and every single one of them says she's a perfect angel (of course!) However, when *I* do it, she acts as if I'm going to cut her open for surgery! HELP! My husband and I don't have the funds to dish out for grooming as often as she does need it, regardless of how short her hair is... I've tried treats, Benadryl (...yeah, doesn't do a thing, she's nuts), calming her, letting her "get to know" the scissors or blade (I eventually bought a grooming set)... she's just a terror. Cute, but a nut!!! I really need some help. |
From a groomer It will take time but you have to be assertive and let her know you are the boss. She now knows that if she acts up you will stop, so you can't stop, let her act up. Eventually she will see that she is not in control. My suggestion would be to have these training sessions on days you don't even really need to cut her hair so it won't be as frustrating to you. As always praise her like crazy when she does something good. :) It will get better, just give her some time. |
