How do I train Bailey's head hair to part? Bailey is 10 months old and I've had him for less that 2 months. Currently he has a top knot, never been trimmed between the eyes or nose. How do I train his hair to part like I see so many on YT? Also how can I keep the hair on his nose out of his eyes? I had him groomed just after I got him and the groomer put some type of 'gook' under his eyes and I still haven't been able to get all of it out. It was very bad at first and needless to say, she won't groom him again. |

Until his hair gets long and heavy enough to "fall" in a part, I would use a comb, part the hair and use a hair jell. |

3 Attachment(s) I use to cut the hair around Joey's nose and eyes in an inverted "V". You can see the first two pictures show where I cut. I decided to grow it out, and this hair will go into the topknot or mustache. I've been growing it out since May, and it's long enough now that it's not poking him in the eyes. You can see picture three was today, and that's 6 months of growth. In the mean time I would use a tiny tiny dab of Petsilk topknot gel. If you are going to trim it, you have to do it every couple of weeks to a month, and I used a rounded tip scissors and held Joey's chin hairs firmly. Bailey still young and the hairs haven't grown completely out, but make sure this is what you want to do before you cut because they do go through a rather bad time to get to the point Bailey already is. I don't recommend ever shaving; it tends to give the dog a longer and scoopier nose appearance. I think some groomers do it to save time, and some dogs because of excessive tearing have to have this done, but it's not the best look. Have you seen member ARCHIE's dog Buddy, does he have the cut you prefer? If so, Archie does all the grooming herself, and perhaps she could give you some tips. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-makeover.html |

Thanks!!! :DNancy-- Your lil Joey's is so cute and that is the look I will want for my new baby. I'm glad i read this b/c i was getting ready to post a thread about "what" gel to use in the "growing out" stage for between the eyes and face area to tame those wild hairs. Where can you find the Pet Silk? Is it expensive and how much are you using? Does it leave the hair greasy? I get my baby on Sat and the breeder is a show breeder and she will have him looking "top notch" so I want to be able to keep it up and I would rather do my own grooming. When we had Julz we pretty much shaved her ourself. This is going to be a BIG change for us:eek: Thanks again you answered another question i posted y-day and this was very helpful too...:) |

Joey thanks you for the compliment, and congratulations on your new dog, I'll bet you are so excited. I found the PetSilk Topknot gel on E-bay, and it was $15.00, which included shipping. Some people get it at Pet Edge online and it's cheaper, if you are going to buy several things, otherwise the carrying costs make it more expensive. I couldn't find it locally, even at the grooming department. It has the consistency of honey, and you use a tiny tiny amount on the stray hairs, not the entire topknot, it just. I had used hair spray, but Joey developed eye ulceration, and I always thought that was connected. The hair spray didn't last very long, and I applied it with a brush, but those hairs came down and poked him in the eye. So, I only recommend products that are safe for dogs. Here's one place at e-bay Pet Silk TOP KNOT GEL 4oz For Securing Hair Bows - eBay (item 150306207238 end time Nov-25-08 11:30:05 PST), you might find it for less. |
