Emergency...matting Tricksie has long hair, was groomed Thursday and her hair is matted to the skin between her shoulders. I saw on another thread to use cornstarch but I don't have any. Thinking of try cornmeal. Has anyone done this. I am just sick and:mad::mad::mad: |
Cornmeal is really coarse...if I were substituting...I'd try powder first. Do you have any spray detangler? That works well too. |
I am using Ice on Ice, with a detangler comb. Have been working on her for 2 hours. |
I like the Ice on Ice and use it, but I also use Johnson & Johnson spray detangler for children. It works really well in a pinch if I'm out of everything else. Lucy mats really badly under her front legs and Rebel mats all over. I hated to, but I had Reb cut down into a puppy cut because I was constantly having to de-mat him. He's much happier now, but I really miss his long hair:( |
If this happens again, I will get a puppy cut. |

Tricksie is so active, she does not need long hair. She loves to roll and tumble, crawl under pillows, she's nuts. I just about have them all out. |
I am glad you got them out:) |
I'm a groomer and have found one of the best products on the market for matts is "Cowboy Magic". They have an entire line of shampoos and conditioner's, plus detanglers. The detangler works great. Matts will slide right out with a little bit of combing. Use a pin brush first after applying the dematter, then use a metal, wide tooth comb afterwards. Never brush a dry coat. Use a little conditioning hair conditioner spray to dampen coat before touch up brushing. Brushing a dry coat will cause it to break off. Hope this helps, Linda |

Emergency...matting 1 Attachment(s) Finally got them out. |
My lil one has a long silky coat and when ever she wears her pj's at night she is always matted in the morning...can anyone tell me what they use on a silky long coat for matting just from wearing clothes? |
So glad you got them all out. :) I've been there before :( - I strongly recommend getting a bottle of Cloud Star's Buddy Splash -- I have recommended this to so many people, and everyone always agrees this stuff works magic - smells wonderful and the grooming tool slides thru the matts |

1 Attachment(s) I love the "perfect coat" 8 in 1 spray. Got it at petco. It smells great. I used it all summer after the girls would swim. |
cornstarch?? Does this work better at getting matts out then Cowboy Magic?? Lillie has a very long cottony coat (?) matts very easy if not brushed every day. I used the CM with a pin brush on her yesterday...It took me over 2 hours (I have to give her a break in between) to get the matts out...Like you Donna...I was ready to shave her down!! I usually do this before her bath....she is easier to comb out after drying her. |

Emergency...matting Sure got a lot of advice, will go shopping, cornstarch, Perfect Coat, Cloud Star's Buddy Splash, This has NEVER happened before. I always brush her before her bath and before the groomer comes. I left the detangler comb on the coffee table and she tried to steel it. That was so miserable for her.:(:(:( Where do you get Cloud Star's Buddy Splash? Maybe I can find it on line.:thumbup: |
I swear by the Cowboy Magic. My Azrael has extremely thick cotton coat and if I don't use a super conditioner that I mix up, she would be a solid matt ball. Zada has a very thick silky coat that also matts easily, so I use the same conditioner on her. Razael has a thin cotton coat, but I only have to use the #1 All Systems conditioner alone on her. You do have to brush then comb your dog/s every single day. They don't call these little Yorkies high maintenance dogs for nothing. ;) |
Emergency...matting 1 Attachment(s) My poor girl, finally got it done. |

Yes your right about the Cowboy Magic. Doesn't take much, maybe a dime size in the palm of your hand. It can leave the coat looking heavy and greasy. If matts are bad, I'll use the CM, then shampoo out and use a good conditioner. Forgot to put that in my last post. sorrreeee....... (.: I've got my yorkies in long coats and if I don't brush them at least twice a day, boy oh boy...... they start looking like rag mcmuffins. lol |

Also, I think Barkaholics carries it - I can't remember her name on YT Also, you might find it at a local pet supply store. My (holistic) vet is where I first discovered it about 4 or 5 yrs ago |
