Chloe's hair is a mess please give advice He was groomed by someone that did something to him to make him not want me to brush him. He has long beautiful hair and is 9 months. I am going to have him groomed in a hair cut like a schowzer ( not spelled right) or maybe you can suggest something. I walk him with a harness which is causing the mats. I want him to be short this time. Thanks for all of your help. Judie |
I'm sorry that someone made grooming such a bad experience for your Chloe. Hopefully with patience and kindness you can undo the damage. Even if you get him cut down, I would still daily run a brush over him, slowly, gently, talking sweetly to him the entire time. It may take awhile, but I think he will realize you won't hurt him and eventually will not be so frightened. |
thank you for getting back to me I will do just that. I love brushing him. |
You're welcome, I love brushing my two also....it is relaxing for me. Something else you might try (this was taught to us in obedience class) is daily massaging and petting over their entire body.....gets them used to being handled in all places ;) |
At the end of the day, when we settle in on the couch to watch tv, mine are both ready to cuddle up on my lap or next to me. Thats when i break out the brush and gently go over them head to toe. Its also when we brush teeth...they are both tired and it goes very well! Oliver in particular loves to be massaged as well! Good luck, Im sure with patience and time you can get Chloe to enjoy grooming again.:) |
Hi! Both of mine are short. Sam has a topknot and Loki doesn't so you can see it both ways. Loki is cut a bit shorter than Sammy. He looks best cut very short and his hair is soft and it lays nicely. Sammy's is cut a little longer - her hair is thicker and super cottony on her body. I only have to comb their faces - otherwise they only get brushed when I bathe them once a week. Drying is so much faster with them short, and if they get a mat I can just cut it out and you'd never know. Loki would sit for hours and let me brush him but he looks cute short so why torture him? Sammy *hates* being brushed and she wiggles and pulls away so it's just easier on both of us for her to be short. She tolerates her topknot so we keep that :) Pics in my avatar - PM me if you like what you see and want closeups for your groomer. IMO the problem with the schnauzer cut is that the legs are still long and you still get mats. It's super cute, but still a lot of work. Mine only require face washing & combing daily and a weekly bath. Someone less um, particular, than me could easily get 2 weeks. But the nice part is that if they do get stinky, like when Sam rolled in something yesterday, a bath/dry takes 10 minutes. I tried to wash her face and she was still stinky so I just dunked her ;) It's so easy I don't even have to think about it. You don't have to plan baths. I just do a sniff test every morning and stinky dogs get baths :D |
