I do Trim the eye area I use blunt baby scissors, that way you won't be afraid of poking her or his eye out....my Widget holds real still so I can trim it for her, and she seems to appreciate it, no hair hanging in her eyes;) |
Depends on Groomer Quote:
I think it depends on several factors, type of hair, shape of face, male or female, including the groomer's preferences. :aimeeyork |
I have scissors that have a rounded blunt end to it. That way you don't have to worry at all. However most of the time I like to let mine grow so that it goes into the top knot. If you don't do that and prefer the short puppy cut then you would want to trim around the eye area. Plus sometimes I think its better if the dog can see really well. It takes awhile for the hair to not get into the dogs eye. |

I trim under the eyes (just on the bridge of the nose area - so those hairs don't poke them in the eyes) and I use thinning shears so it all blends in. |
1 Attachment(s) My girl is in a puppy cut and I groom around the eye area all of the time. More the bridge of the nose etc. I always use the blunt ended scissors. We started off with 2 of us needing to do it - one to hold the other to cut. Now I just plunk her in the bath tub (before her bath) and trim away. She is very good about it. We always have fun play time and a treat directly after it. |
I use to cut it in a little fan shape around the bridge of the nose, but finally decided to grow it out, about the time I really got good at cutting it. If you are planning on a topknot, I think it looks so much better if this is grown out, I really wished I would have started sooner, because when he was a puppy, his hair grew very fast. If you decide to grow it out, Pet Silk Topknot gel works well in keeping the short hairs out of the eyes, until they are long enough to go in the topknot. If you decide to trim it, I recommend blunt scissors and holding their face still with one hand placed on their side chin hairs. |
I trim one of our puppies eye hair because it grows directly into his eye causing lots of eye boogers. I don't plan to show him, so the way i look at it just do whatever is best for you and your dog. |
I had to trim my puppies eye hair because it was completely covering his eyes and he was tearing alot. I kept trying to research to see if this is good or bad, but found an equal amount of do's and dont's. I did it because I figured I wouldn't like hair in my eyeball so I can't imagine my little baby enjoying it either. I am aware though that i will forever have to keep trimming it, but that's fine. He's my baby, and I am prepared to do so. :o) If anyone has any valuable information please advise... Thanks :o) |

Aside from tearing doesn't hair in the eye bother them regardless??? That's mainly why I did it... Please advise...Thanks- |

I will try vaseline when it starts to grow back. I can't do a hair tie on my little man. So vaseline does sound like an idea. Thanks for the tip:D |

Personally, I didn't find that vaseline or top knot gel weighed the hair down enough. Instead, it would create spikes of hair that would poke into his eyes that much harder. A lot of people have success with it, though. One thing you might try, though it will take more patience: selectively trim hair so there's never a ton of it sticking into the eyes. Let some of the hair grow long until it's no longer an issue, then let some of the other hair grow, and so on. Assuming you want long hair, of course. |
