Ear hair
 
I read in a book that you should pluck the hair out of their ears...is this true? Do you or your groomer do this? I would think the hair is there to protect the inside if their ears but I don't know now. Thanks :)

Absolutely!....I'm a groomer and a breeder. Hair left in the ear canals trap water in, subjecting the ear to the greater possibility of an infection......I use a hemostat.....tweezers will do....you might need assistance in having someone hold your dog for you....I usually do this before bath.....then after the bath, before drying, I use a cleansing solution with a drying agent (Vet Solutions purchased through Revivalanimal.com....then use a make-up remover pad to swab the entire ear to wipe and clean up any residue.

I use an ear powder, which makes it easier to pluck the hairs! It makes it grip better and I usually can pull all of them by hand by using the powder. Happy Plucking!!

Thanks for this post. I've been bathing/grooming my furbaby and have heard about the removing the ear hair but never knew what it meant. In any case, I found something on youtube that demonstrates how to do this -

I can only go on how my dogs react.....I don't get crying or yelping, some resist more than others by squirming.

OMGoodness, I can't believe that little doggie just stood there and allowed her to remove all of that hair !!!!! Bless his/her heart. :D
I knew that we had to remove the hairs, but have been avoiding it because I am a little afraid. I have had Taylor now for 4 months..... looks like it is time to get the job done. First I will look at our Pet store for some ear powder. Does the powder help the hairs to come out easier... with less pain or is it simply to aid in gripping the hairs ??? Wish me luck......... er, rather Taylor and Ceasar. LOL LOL LOL :animal-pa :animal-pa

I don't believe the ear powder makes it any less painful. It just makes it easier to grab the hair and pull. I went to Petco the other day to purchase the powder, but most of them looked like it's been sitting on a shelf for a very long time. So I'm going to try Petsmart or order online. Good luck with ear hair removal!

it looks so easy it that video…I don’t think I can do that to Pulga, her hairs don’t go out that easily :(

That video does make it look easy, but it does seem the more you do it the easier the hair pulls. Just make sure you are only getting hair from in the cannel and not the hair on the side of the ear. Joey is the biggest baby ever, and lets me know if I hurt him when I'm brushing him, and seems extremely sensitive to any discomfort, but with the ear hair he sits there like a trooper and doesn't even flinch, so I know it's not causing any pain.

It does not hurt them....just don't pull a lot of hairs at one time!
