How do I groom her??
 

My pretty little 3 month baby girl - I try to groom my little baby but she ALWAYS tries to bite the towel, when I’m trying to clean her face (eyes) she just wont let me! Or even use scissors to trim around her pretty eyes so she can see! And/or ears - Please help! Any suggestions???? She’s out of control when I try to groom her! I wonder how groomers do it!!

They have a way of making it tough, don't they?!?:) My best suggestion is for you not to give up, with persistence and patience she will get used to the grooming. I never trimmed the hair around their eyes, preferring to let it grow.

There is a yt member that sells dvd's on grooming yorkies, I would recommend it! She also offers it on ebay , I think.

I have 2 yorkie girls...they didn't like bath time either...but, don't give up! with each bath and brushing they will get better...just keep talking to them while you are bathing/brushing them. Mine STILL don't like bath time but, they don't give me a hard time like they used to. Sadie's coat is kind of coarse and not long and soft like Lillies so it's easier to groom her..I towel dry her and then let her loose! She is INSANE after her bath!! Lillie lets me use the hair dryer on her..

The key is don't give up! it will get easier with each bath

??? I am in the same boat with Maggie. Hot Rod has been professionally groomed several times so I guess that is maybe why he is soooo much better with it. But Maggie will not sit/stand still for anything. She is constantly looking behind her to which means that she is curved like a horseshoe when I am trying to do something with her! When I do her eyes, I say "face" meaning cleaning eyes--she will sit still and let me about have the time. I've started to put her in a stance and just practicing that for now. Maybe one day she'll actually stand still so I can actually groom her. :D I have found that if I let her sniff the comb, brush, scissors, hairdryer, it is easier to use on her but not necessarily all the time. Maybe a grooming table with the arm so that you can have both hands free would help? I too do not cut the hair around the eyes. Good luck and just don't give up!

I am having the same difficulties with our yorkie pups... a couple things that have worked so far that may help you - I found a tiny comb and scissors used for trimming men's facial hair on eBay (I also found a small curved pair of scissors on eBay as well with blunt tips that I'm more comfortable using so if the pups move quickly they are not poked by a sharp tip). While the pups are sleeping in my lap I pet them and also run the comb through their hair (especially their faces and ears) until they get comfortable and stay asleep. Then I run the comb through a place I want to cut around their eyes (I have tried to let their hair grow and for the life of me cannot manage to keep them clean enough) and if they stay asleep I just clip the hair sticking out of the comb - this way they are always protected from the scissors, I am very afraid of ever cutting too close and nipping their skin so keeping the comb between the scissors and the pup works great. If they stay asleep I go onto the next spot, if they wake up I pet them somemore to get them back to sleep or work on a different part of their bodies: feet, tail, belly area, ears, etc. The problem with this technique is that it takes FOREVER to get done! ha I could spend an entire day clipping a spot, having them wake up and move in my lap to hide their face, wait for them to fall asleep, clip again, etc. That is why I am searching for ideas to keep them still so I can accomplish what I need to much faster... but for the time being it does work. Hi, Yes Marbellah is just like Maggie she's ALWAYS moving! doesn't stay still!

Lily just "HATES" all of it!!lol She weighs 3lb. and you would think she was huge the way she fights when I try to wash her face or do anything to her!! I don't dry her with a dryer and I let her just RUN because she is so out of control when I bath her!! I am ashamed to say that about a little tiny dog that "I can't control her"!! She is 7 months old now and her coat is getting little better to manage. What kind of brush do ya all use? I read on here one time that someone used one from "Walmart" and liked it real well but I don't remember what it was?? I have tried EVERYTHING and she hates it all...I am afraid I'll hurt her because she fights so bad when I try to comb or brush her at all. Any tips anyone can give me is greatly appreciated!!! THANKS

Hi :) well i am having trouble getting knotts out :( but my baby will be still for me. i put whatever i am going to use on her..brush hair dryer etc in front of her first and let her smell etc etc then i pick it up and start to groom. she will be still as long as she gets to check things out first. i have tested this and not let her see what i am using on her and she gets very wild and won't be still. so maybe this will work for you..worth a try :)

If you can find someone to help you out when you are grooming, have them hold/give treats to keep your dogs attention. After a few (or even many) sessions it'll be much easier. Also, try touching her face as much as you can when you are just cuddling or playing.

These methods have worked out pretty good for our two puppies.

I recently purchased a grooming table and my little girl acts very different being on that table with the leash under her chin. I tried to do a little grooming without it and it was not going to happen! I have taken her to groomers in the past but am now working on her myself.
