Bathing??
 

Pippin is 18 months old and I bath him once every two weeks but lately it's been a little more often like once a week just because there is so much dust around our house because it's considered a construction zone. Pippin has a fenced in back yard that he can play in with grass but sometimes he comes in dusty and full of sand and smelling like dirt. My question is is it okay to bath him more often when he smells like dirt and is all dusty?

I bathe our yorkies once a week, juse make sure you use a good shampoo and conditioner so thier skin does not get dried out. We really like Buddy Wash

Right now I'm using Johnsons Baby Shampoo on Pippin. It leaves his coat feeling silky and his skin does not feel dry at all. I don't use a conditioner on him, my local pet store didn't have any the last time I was down there and I haven't checked WalMart. I was just worried that I was bathing him too much because with all the dust and dirt outside sometimes he comes in reeking like a dog and I can't stand it. Do your Yorkies like bath time? Pippin loves it he plays with his rubber ducky until the very last drop of water has been drained from the tub.

If you're worried about bathing him too often, you can always get one of those dry/no rinse shampoos. You just spray it on them and towel dry. I got a Petsilk one from go.fetch™ but she's currently sold out of it. Also, if you want help with the smell, I highly recommend Petsilk colognes. The scent stays on them for sooo long! I have the French Vanilla one and he still smells yummy after 7 days!

Pippin loves both the bathtub (Or anything that has to do with water) and he also doesn't mind the hair dryer either. He just goes around my bathroom floor while I blow dry him. He likes smelling pretty too and he likes to let ppl know that he smells good. He'll run downstairs where my mom usually is and he'll sit in her lap and paw at her until she smells him and tells him that he smells good.

I was only curious if it was okay to bath him once a week. Anyways about the 'dog' smell. It's not very often that he smells, it's only recently because he's been spending alot more time outside.

I've heard about some Yorkies not liking water at all. Pippin has never been in a swimming pool before but he's getting his own inflatable pool next summer. He seeks out every puddle on our walks but I can't get him in the bath tub fast enough. By the time bath time is over and I'm ready to take him out I'm soaked from almost head to toe. He jumps around in the bathtub and splashes.. I'm going to have to take a video of him in the tub next time and put it on here for everyone to see.

Mine basically just hold still through it. It is a time I can do about anything including trimming thier nails. So they don't love it or hate it, but they let me get it done which is all that matters!!

Is there anyone out there who has hints on getting Gucci to "like" his bath time? I've tried everything I can but he is almost frantic when it's time for his bath. :eek: If he could, he'd fly! His little legs work the whole time we're lathering up, and even more so when it's rinse time. I've tried the spray hose, gently pouring water over him, and simply scooping water from the sink and rinsing. Nothing works. He still shakes like we're killing him! He's barely 3# at 19 weeks. I thought that starting him early would make a difference, but I've been bathing him since he was 7 weeks and it has not improved. Has anyone had success with the shower? He's scoped me out when I'm in the shower, so I was thinking of trying that.

Pippin didn't like the bath at first. He was 3 months old when I gave him his first bath and he hated it.. but after one day playing in the yard with the hose and getting soaking wet he realized that he likes the water and now he loves bath time.

Do you put a towel on the bottom so his feet can't slip? Sometimes that helps, I use the kitchen sink so I can stand while doing it. I know some people think ooh gross but you can steralize the sink when you are done.

We use the kitchen sink which is very deep and I've placed a towel down as well. Neither works. I guess we'll just have to keep at it. he's getting baths whether he wants them or not! I try to reassure him as we go, but he's still uneasy. We'll see as time goes by. You'd think he'd understand by now. As I understand, he's been great with the groomer the 2 times he visited him. Maybe it's me!

I always give our babies a special treat when they are all done, maybe that would help

Gucci does love his Cheerios . . I'l give that a try on Saturday.

Cuddles hates taking a bath too. Whenever it's her bath day I just stay in the tub with her and she seems to be more calm than if I were to wash her when I'm out of the tub and you might want to close the door or curtains when your inside the tub, just so they think there's no escape :D

Well, last night I tried the cheerios on the counter and he had no interest. Didn't care about the peanut butter either. I'm going to try the bathtub next time.

I have a 7month old lil girl yorkie and I got her at 8weeks. I started bathing her right away in the sink, and from day one she has hated it. I have tried sink, bath tub, small pool, using the removable shower head, a cup, bath mat, towel, pretty much everything. She kicks all 4 legs like shes swimming or tryin to fly. I can totally relate to the one thread up that, that someone said at the end ur drenched from head to toe. I have tried bathin with her. I stay calm in body language and voice and give her her favorite treats. Also I wanted to ask about her coat. She has a black body just recently a lil gray hairs mixed throughout(looks like someone who is just startin to get grays that has black hair, paws are golden, and her face is mainly golden with mostly gray on top,and golden/black ears. Like I said before she is 7 months. Does anybody know what her final colors will be as well as what kind of coat. She has to be brushed at least once a day. She doesnt mat, but gets tangles. I wouldnt say her hair feels like silk, but its not too rough. I use Bobbi Bebe puppy shampoo/conditioner combo, and bath once a week. She has gotten one puppy bath, and one hair cut at petsmart beg. of october. They did a puppy cut/shave and took off skirt, so im trying to let grow out, but starting to look straggly. Im lettin the hair right above her eyes grow out to the length of the hair on top of head to put in bow. I use lil clips to hold back now. She also gets a lot of junk in her eyes..any suggestions. I know its a lot, but this is my first dog/yorkie and I love her to death and want the best. Thanks in advance!!
