Let the hair grow? I usually keep Rowdy, 1 year old, 4 pounds, in a puppy cut, but after seeing so many groomed yorkies at a show last week, I think I will let his coat grow out this winter. I have a question about the hair around his eyes. Do you let that grow too? Right now it's sticking straight out. He also has a lot of eye "stuff" under his eyes too. I'm wondering what you yorkies owners suggest. |
I'm letting Teddi grow out. The only part I am cutting is I shave the bottom of her paws and the tops of her ears and I cut a little around her ears and her tail. I want her to grow long but I love her little bunny tail so I'm not letting that grow. She has a bunch of hair around her nose and eyes that bugs me (I'm sure it bugs her too) but I hear that if I am patient then it will eventually grow long and lay down...which I can't wait for. I'll post some pictures tomorrow of how the grow out is going. Good luck. |
Bella's is growing out. It is not as painful as I thought it would be but I reallyneed to get some of the petsilk hair gel to make sure its not poking her in the eyes. I would hate for her to get an abraision |
I thought I would love the puppy cut all my life, until I saw more and more pictures of dogs in a long coat, now I love this look. It's nice there's a choice. For dogs with a cotton coat the puppy cut is probably the best solution, but if your dog has a silky coat, by all means grow it out if you like this cut. I grew out Joey's topknot, but kept the little nose bridge hair cut in a fan shape, now I wished I had grown it out from the beginning. Pet Silk topknot gel is great for keep this hair out of eyes, and it's safe to use. |
Me too letting it grow out. Can't wait to get pass this stage. One of the reasons I have not professionally groomed. |
I'm so aggravated at the groomer who cut Abby and Daisy's hair on their nose :( I didn't know enough at the time to ask her not to, so now we're growing that out too and it looks yucky. I did have to trim just the hairs that were sticking up toward Abby's eyes yesterday because it was causing them to water. Patients....Patients. |
I am a groomer and I always ask about that eye corner area!! I have 2 yorkies and I don't cut either one in the corner of the eye. It does take time and patience to let it grow out, to keep the area clean I will use a flea comb to catch any 'gunkies'. I keepy my male in a 1" clip all over, cause his hair is as cottony as it gets, i did keep him in full coat for a while but oh the pain of grooming!! my female has a thin silky coat and she is in full coat. |
2 Attachment(s) I've done both with Nolee! I think I prefer the puppy cut for him. With his long coat, he looks soo old! I don't want him to grow up. |
How long does it take to grow out? |

I think I started in January, and the hair on the bridge of his nose was cut in a little fan shape. I could not have done it without Pet Silk Topknot Gel, it really keeps all the short hair out of his eyes. It's still not grown all the way out yet. Many people start as a puppy, and I think their hair grows faster then; I know I had to cut it all the time. |
I just looked up my old threads on this, and I guess I've only been growing it out since May, but it sure seems like much longer. |
