Bathroom Problem With Long Coat Hi all!! I know this is gross but I need help and sugesstions from owners of long haired furbabies. My Keoki has long hair and it seems lately that when he goes to the bathroom it is getting stuck in his hair- almost daily!!!!! This only started happening recently- is there a way he should be cut back there or what can I do??? He is shaved around his little heiny hole but it gets stuck in the longer hair that runs down his butt. I know this is a weird question but I'm at my wits end... Help!@!!!!! Any suggestions???? Thanks!!! |
Well, Jazzie had an episode with the d word, since this was temporary.... I gathered the sides of her rear/leg hair and put her hair in rubber bands, one on the left, one on the right, plus the hair of her tail in another pony tail folding the hair in half and catching the end in the rubber band. Jazzie didn't mind. I have pictures of it, if you want to see it pm me. ;) Now if your baby is having soft poo everyday, I would look into changing the food gradually, to something better, or it could even be caused by the treats you are giving  I hope this helps.... |
Thank you!!! I am going to try the rubber band trick and see how it works- It doesn't seem to be a soft consistency of stool at all but the hair being in the way??? I will try it this morning- thank you so much!!! |
I think you have to be carefull with a rubber band on a tail though, don't you? Can't the circulation get cut off? I have very faint childhood memories about how this can make a tail fall off. I am NOT an expert, just a thought. |
Hi, the rubber band does not go on the tail but the hair that begins after the tail, I loop the end of the hair into the rubber band as well. I only do this if and when she has loose bowel movements. :aimeeyork |
No- I would never put a rubber band around his tail!!!! Just around the hair but unfortunately Keoki tried to bite the rubber band off his butt (hair) so that ends that :) I think i will talk to the groomer about it when we go next week but am always open to suggestions! |

You might try a braid in the tail hair , that will help keep it out of the way. |

Please let me know what you find out. I have the same problem with Nolee. It's the long hair on his legs it stays stuck in! Thanks! |
I keep their bum shaved clean so it has not problems, and I do cut some of the side hair a tad to make the way clear.. now my annabella is a baby and if it happens to her.. I know right away she squeals like some one is beating her.. it is funny... so again I just watch that area..but I guess if it is a show coat.. that would be different.. anne |
We have struggled with this with our non show yorkie in a long coat....and we finally cut her tail hari back shorter and we also shave a wider strip than normal and like mentioned above cut her hair back a little way to help. But this will not work if you are showing....that is why most show people wrap and I am guessing if you start young enough they will get use to those wraps and leave them alone. |

I've never had that problem with any of my girls, but have noticed the dogs who are eating kibble get the poop stuck in the hair. Just a difference in consistancy. Just cut the hair short on the back side. I think that may be your only way to help with this. |
