I posted a thread a couple of weeks ago when I was thinking about thinning Bernie's hair myself. He's never been to the groomer, and to be honest, I hear so many horror stories on here, I'm afraid. I want it to grow long, just was too thick. So, I got the thinning shears #30, and combed the top layer of hair back and thinned underneath. I cut out several handfuls of hair. I did his legs too. It has to feel better for him. It looks better and it lays down so nicely now. Thanks for looking

It looks like you did a wonderful job of grooming with the thinning shears. I also use the thinning shears on my thicker coated yorkies. Also the thinning shears come in handy if you get a mat and you do not want to cut the whole chunk out. Just cut into the center of the mat and it will brush right out. Very cute Yorkie!

Yes, I did work through a couple of mats with the thinning shears. Works much better than cutting a big hunk out.

I think he looks great. My mom bekasue65 uses thinning shears on Maggie Mae. Great Job.

Hey thanks for the compliements guys! I really appreciate it. I just went to Sally's Beauty Supply and bought a #30 thinning shear. It's no special brand, just $14.99. And, yes, Bernie has a cottony coat....but I'm working with that too. I use BioSilk on my hair, and I have started generously sharing it with Bernie. After I bathe him, I load him up with BioSilk. Now that his hair is thinner, it responds to the BioSilk much better. He will stay silkie for about a week, then he gets another bath and more BioSilk.

Good for you. Bernie looks very pleased with himself and knows how
handsome Mommy made him. I bet he feels better with some of that
hair off too.
Keep up the good work. You know your baby is safe when your grooming
him yourself.

I have a cotty coat male, and I want his hair to be thinned. I called the groomer and they do it. So the next time I am going to his done.

I have thinning shears too and wouldn't be without them. They work wonders on mats and trimming without leaving a choppy look. :D:D:D

wow, now i have to buy them.. so you say they work good on the legs?
when i cut lexi's hair on her legs, it looks soo choppy and ugly. hopefully

Yes it worked great on his legs. I just combed it out really good, parted what I considered to the the outside layer and thinned. I didn't go all the way to the roots...just like half the hair. If you go all the way to the roots, it will make the other hair stand out/up (whatever) when it starts growing back.
