Feet grooming question So I'm trying to groom Teddi myself and have a question about the feet. For those of you with long hair yorkies do you just cut around the feet and do you also cut the hair under her feet? I need to also cut her nails...do you guys do that yourself or do you take your pups to get them cut somewhere? I'm so scared to cut them. |

I would just take her to the Vet. to have her nails and hair trimmed on her feet. :p |

Cutting the feet is very easy. Place the paw down and cut around the foot area in a circular motion. Follow the outline of the paw. Don't cut above the nails just infront of them. Lift the paw up and use a moustache trimmer to get the hair between the pads. If that is left long it will hurt to walk, hence pulling of the hair with each step. Sorta like digging it out with the trimmer. It does not pinch them, it's safe and easy. I would purchase a peticure for the nails. I am afraid to cut them too. Even the vet has cut them too short and he yelped. I am learning to use the peticure on his nails. Hope this helps you. |
I cut the hair on top and between their pads on Ruby and Reno. I've used beard trimmers and scissors and now prefer using scissors. I also cut their nails myself and use clippers (just regular small human nail clippers) then I use the Peticure to smooth them off. I ordered the grooming dvd that I think, it's Sue, on here offers for sale. It helped a lot and has some great tips for all home grooming. It's designed for pet people, but if you're uncertain about these grooming procedures it is certainly worth watching! It was a struggle at first to get them to co-operate but now it's not much of a problem....Reno is still learning about the Peticure though.:) |

This link is for a previous sale Sue had on the dvd, but you could contact her through email and see what she is offering. Also, the Peticure is sort of a dremel tool (with a spinning sandpaper band) it has a plastic guard that has different size holes for the nails...the guard keeps the hair from getting tangled and the sandpaper band files the nails as it spins. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...oming-dvd.html |
we trim around the feet with scissors.. we trim the pads with scissors and clippers. (just remove the hair around the pads! ;) it doesn't hurt them..) and we were thinking about ordering the peticure as well.. but we use nail clippers right now.. and also a nail file! ;) just make sure you do bits at a time.. and have quickstop on hand and you will be fine! if you make lil teddi bleed-just put the quickstop powder on! ;) :) |
