?? About Trimming Hair Around Eyes Hi everyone, I have a question about the little short hairs that grow up from Cooper's muzzle and sort of poke in his eyes. I don't know if they really poke him or if the just look like they do. but they don't seem to grow longer and I can't tame them with any gel or anything to lay down. Should I trim them and keep them trimmed? Or will they eventually grow long enough to lay down on their own? He is 7 months. They seem to obstruct his vision some and I think it may make his eyes run eventually. any suggestions would be helpful I can't seem to get him to sit still long enough to get a picture to show you. |
Alfies hair does this too. According to the groomer it does not bother him. I have taken Alfie to 2 different groomers. One of them shaved the bridge of his nose which kept the hair away and the other one said not to do that because the hair will grow back all unruly. But she did trim the hairs around his eyes. |
Tiki's first haircut was a few days ago and the groomer shaved the bridge and top of her nose. Wish she hadn't cause it really makes her nose look long, and I would rather have had those hairs grow out and comb down. I guess she thought that's what I wanted cause I'm not going to "top knot", but I sure don't like the shaved nose. |
Thanks for the replys, I have been thinking about the bridge of the nose shaving thing too. I don't think I would like that either. Today we are trying to have a "Ninja Knot" so far he is keeping it in but those blasted hairs are driving me nuts.... He will not sit still long enough for me to just trim them with the sissors. I have some blunt endend baby sissors. but no go. So I will have to get someone to help me. Oh well... thanks |
Kingston has this same problem, you cannot even see his eyes his hair is so bad. The groomer and breeder both suggested I wait it out and eventually the hair will grow long and lay down. |

Sue that sells the Yorkie grooming DVD also suggests NOT cutting the nose/eye hair cause it will be sticking up worse and you'll have to wait forever for it to grow out. I didn't think to mention it to my groomer, and now wish I had. So, we will wait. However, it is good to keep the eyes clean and free of goo. |
I'm letting Lilly's grow out, I hate how it gets when she's ready for another groom so I'm just going to leave it alone and let it all grow out to the same length as the rest of her face :p |
Makes a mess under her chin My cutepuff makes a mess of the hairs under her chin between eating and water how does everyone keep them clean especially the ones with the really long hair. My vet told me to bathe her every 3 to 4 months (well that doesn't work). I bathe her every 2 weeks. Especially because of the chin and eye dirt. Any suggestions? |
I don't have any suggestions, Sam hates anyone to get near him with a comb or anything that has to do with anyone grooming him. |
We've been fighting that growing out thing too! It's a long tedious journey growing out those little things. Personally, I say grow it out. I love the top not. |
I don't like the shaved nose area either. I just take blunt scissors and they will finally calm down enough for you to do a good job. I normally start them off with just doing a little bit every other day for them to get use to the scissors. I hate not seeing their little eyes. Plus its easier to clean there eyes out daily. |
My Momma always said Patience is a Virtue.... I just never was too virtuous. :D I guess I will get some of that pet silk gel. I really am trying to grow him out at least once. His sire has long hair and I just love it. I couldn't stand bathing Cooper only every 3-4 months??? EEEKKK!!!!:eek::eek: Smelly dog.. LOL He gets one about every 10 days. I also shampoo his head sometimes in between because he kinda looks "oily" I have to wash his face every day, and his private area. (in proper order) LOL I have his belly shaved right now because he was neutered last week. I might keep his belly that way we have had a lot less tangles and smellies without the long hair around his little man. they just left a little hair string on the end to direct the pee he said. I have cleaned my computer all off today so he has a place to sit, but he still wants to sit on the floor under my feet. so afraid I will roll over him with my chair. Thanks for all the replys I will just be patient and let it grow. I just wasn't sure that it was suppose to grow or what.:yorkietal |
