Lots of licking after short close groom Gizmo was groomed yesterday, and his belly was shaved bare. There are no red spots, no nicks, no rash. However, he has been licking at different spots on and off all morning. This is the shortest he's ever been shaved. Is the licking normal? Should we just leave him alone? Is there something we can do to ease any discomfort he may be feeling? Does the licking mean it's bothering him, or just that he's getting used to it being so short? Thanks in advance. :) |
Maybe his skin is a little dry there and now since he was groomed its itchy. You could get some cortizone spray and put on it |
My Dil's, dog little hinny was shaved too close, and he licked it until an infection resulted. You have to be careful what you use, as they will continue licking, and could ingest some of the ingredient. A&D cream is really effective for stopping irritation, but it has zinc oxide as the main ingredient, and I don't know if this is safe either. Does anyone know if cortisone spray is safe, I really want to have something on hand that I can use. Licking means it's bothering him, I think. |

I'll check that out. Thanks ladies. :) I also have some doggie moisturizing spray, but I don't want to put anything on him that might sting either, so I hesitate to use it. He's licking a lot less now, so hopefully it's not bothering him as much. |
