washing the muzzle Hi everyone, Anyone have any good ideas on the best way to wash the puppy's muzzle? I've been using the spray nozzle from the kitchen sink and that's not working out too well. Even though I try not to get it anywhere near her nostrils, she frets a lot when it comes time to do this and she's not happy. Otherwise, she seems to enjoy her weekly bath. I'd just like to know how others wash the face, especially near the nose. Thanks in advance.:aimeeyork |
I use either a very wet facecloth or a handful of water in that area. I think the spray would be scarey for a puppy |
I use a washcloth or water from my hands. |
Gracie hates to have her face washed and worse yet, hates to have it rinsed. I do the best I can with a wash cloth or cupping the water in my hands. More often than not I use a glass full of water and kind of pour it on to rinse her face. She hates it but it is the fastest way to get the job done. Holly could care less, I just rinse her face directly from the tap. |
Thanks for the responses. Using the sprayer is the fastest but I think I'll be using the facecloth so she's not so worried when it comes time to do that. |
Yes my two hate having their faces rinsed, specialy Apollo, fights me every step of the way, i kinda cup my hand across their noses to minimize water in their noses  |
I fill up a big ketchup/mustard bottle with water and use that to wet lady's face. You can direct the stream so it never gets in eyes, ears, etc. I also put a child's plastic bib on her to keep her chest dry. It works great for us! |
Conner gets the stinkiest mustache!!! I put a little bit of his shampoo in a bowl with warm water, wash his mustache with a face cloth, then use the face cloth that is very wet with clean water to rinse. I usually do this after I brush his teeth (another challenge). |

I have been struggling with this same issue. I have started using an empty dishsoap bottle to squirt the water on. They still don't like that. I have used a washcloth but wasn't sure if I was getting everything off or not. (my gang eats raw food) I usually use a tearless shampoo when I'm just doing the muzzle area. |

I just kind of do a fast rinse, she hates it but it gets the shampoo out and she lives. ;) |
I got that tip from a member on another forum years ago so I can't take credit for it. :D |

I use baby washcloths. First just water on the cloth, to get the goo out of the corner of the eye. Then I add a little gentle soap if needed for the muzzle. The baby washcloths are cheap and washable. |

Mine eat raw food too, and I was wondering how often you wash their faces. I don't wash them every time they eat. Should I? |
I use a washcloth and use waterless shampoo. I buy the Paul Mitchell brand. Gets the job done! |
