How long would it take to get his hair back? I just adopted a 17 week-old yorkie from my animal shelter. He was gorgeous. My friend who was a groomer for ten years offered to give him a cut. I accepted thinking she knew what to do. I asked for not too short on the back and a little off the face. She told me she would do a typical yorkie cut. I told her ok and 2 hours later, she handed me a wreck. How long do you think it would take to grow his hair back and would his dark colors come back? |
Aww, I am sorry you had a groomer that didn't listen :( But there is a bright side to this, if your pup is only 17 weeks, having it shaved will save you from going through the puppy coat stage, which can be, depending on the coat type, a p.i.t.a. My girl had the worst of worst puppy coats, matted easily, so I kept her in a puppy cut until she was almost a year, and have been growing it ever since. Her hair is beautiful now and never matts!! As far as the color goes, it all depends on what coloring your Yorkie is going to turn out to be. It could come in lighter or dark. Not because it was cut, but because thats how some Yorkies change. Welcome to YT! And congrats on your new Yorkie :) |
He's still really young, and so I guess it will grow pretty fast, Joey's hair grew fast the first six months, and I made lots of mistakes while learning how to cut his hair in a style I like. Finally perfected my technique, and then I decided I like it when the nose hair is long and goes to the topknot instead of that little "V" like in a puppy cut, so now at 1 1/2 he's going through another awkward period. My advice is to visit the grooming forum, and read some of those instruction booklets they provide. His grooming time is a very pleasant experience for us, and if it's wrong, I only have myself to blame. Oh, welcome to YorkieTalk! |
thank you. It was a horrible expirence. It was like he died and I got a new pup. |

Oh, I'm sorry your friend gave your little one a cut you didn't like. It won't take long at all to grow back. Just a few months. Welcome to YT! Can't wait to see pictures. :) |

Maybe you should consider buying him a couple of shirts or tanks. Clothes can offer some protection of the summer sun, as well as warmth if using air conditioner. Probably his head should look good in a month. |
there too big of a file to post. I tried to post links to imageshack and I thik that needs approving. Its so upsetting to look at the pictures of what he used to look like. His name is Benny by the way. |
I'm not sure about imageshack, here's a free program that lets you resize pictures and do other things. Photoscape : Free Photo Editing Software Download Photobucket let you resize pictures onsite. Benny's a cute name, remember, he still the same dog, just a different look, and probably in a couple days, your eyes will get use to the new look. This thread has lots of infomation on how to post pictures as well as a program that resizes. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-pictures.html |
4 Attachment(s) Here is Benny! What an adorable little guy!! Your friend sure did a number on his hair ... but I wouldn't worry, it's your little baby that's precious not the hair.... his coat will grow back in no time, you'll see... How lucky are you to have found such a wonderful little guy at your local shelter! That's just fabulous! :) Looking forward to watching him grow here on YT... welcome!! :) |
thank you for posting his pics. Im still trying to figure it out. |
OMG he is ADORABLE! I love his little face. Don't worry about the hair, it will grow back in no time :) |
Wow, she says that she's been a groom for 17 years and that's typical? Hmmm, oh well the other's are right, he is so cute, it doesn't matter, makes me wonder what Joey would look like if he got the "typical yorkie cut?" :D |
do you think he will get darker? |

thank you all for all your help. I'm going to groom him myself even though im only 15. I'm going to get some nice shears and a mini whal pocket pro. If I can scrape enough money, maybe an actual clipper. |

Keep your eyes open....... Now that you have a Yorkie, you are more than likely to meet other Yorkie owners in your area. Ask them what groomer they use......... Maybe you will find a groomer that does what you want them to do. |
He's so cute! Max's second cut was a nightmare for me! I was so upset. They cut him bangs and then they grew out to his face and I couldn't see his eyes anymore. But the time goes quick, and his hair grew back really fast. The only thing his bangs won't go back anymore. They grow towards his face and cover his cute little eyes, so I have to keep cutting them or do a top knot. |
puppy Ther eis not the way to groom a 17 week old..but what is done, is done...let it grow and it will take a few months..AND avoid this groomer in the future. ALways write what you want done...leave top knot, no face clipping..etc..and tell them you will not pay of they screw up. There are so many groomer complaints, I am beginning to think most groomers are on a power trip...they will do as they please and to heck with the owner..saw some of that attitude on Groomer Has It... |
