will my yorkies hair grow back the same?
 
Hi All,

My yorkie is 4.5 months now (18 weeks) and about 2 weeks ago I noticed many matts closer to the skin. He had lots of curly/fluffy black hair w/gold highlights and kinda looked like a little teddy bear - sort of like the typical yorkie puppy pictures you see around.

I did brush him regularly, but not with a metal comb (my mistake). I took him to the groomer and they said it was caused from the adult hair growing into the puppy hair and recommended we shave him, so we did. After shaving him, he had silver/grey hair and since then it has turned into a darker grey color.

My question(s): Is he going to stay grey? Will he not grow the curly/fluffy looking hair anymore? His leg hair is already growing back the way it used to look, but the rest of him looks like its growing back more straight than fluffy!

more than likely he will be the more medium gray to silver color....a lot of yorkies end up with that coloring....on his pedigree papers what was he registered as?

Unless he has a cotton coat, no he won't be fluffy any more. Nor will it come back in black coloring. His back should eventually develop into a steel blue color...

I would love to see before/after pictures. I did the same thing with Huckleberry 2 and a half weeks ago (when he was 17 weeks old). His coat was just like what you are describing....fluffy black teddy bear looking. Now, he has the steel blue/silver on his back.

yes but also what coloring was he registered with.....blue/gold....black/gold...black/tan....blue/tan...that is what i mean......Smokey is registered with CKC and his says he is blue/gold.....well he is also half Biewer so now he has some white and off white and rust colorings on him also....especially around the face area...

oh ok, he was registered as a Black/Gold Yorkshire Terrier. I attached the Before/After pics the other user requested as well. I dont have the better quality ones here with me, so i guess these will do!

he is very very cute....looks to me like he may keep some...key word there is some....of his black coloring (especially on his back, and around his eyes)....it will be very interesting to see with the next trimming how he is looking....they change so much in the first 8 months....good luck...he sure does look like a keeper though...very cute

He is so cute! His coloring, on his back is steel blue like my Huck's was once I shaved him.

Hello,
I'm new to YorkieTalk. I was reading this post, and I have the exact same problem and question! My yorkie is also 4.5 months old and i just had him shaved because his hair was matted. I am heartbroken =( He had jet black, fluffy, curly hair and now it is a siler/grey color. I am really really hoping it grows back the same....

I recently had to shave my yorkie he is almost 4 months old. And when i shaved his fluffy blavk curly hair off underneth was a silverish bronze color. Now on his CKC papers he is a black/tan and his father is the sam emother was black/gold. So im wondering what color will he be. Can anyone help me . I will post before and after. thanks

Hi, i have a question my baby is 8 months old, i was gonna let his hair grow "wich is like 1 1/2 in long" i never have shave him i never let his hair get matted, but his hair is so thin and it tangles alot so i was wondering if i shave him would his hair get thicker??? I really dont want to shave him i love his long straight hair but i hate the fact that is so damn thin :( plz help me asap
