I took Max to the groomers today. It was the first time I've ever taken him...they did a so-so job, but that's not what's gotten me all :confused:

I picked him up, took him home and went out for a bit. When I came home I was very suprised to see........well.......a very "excited" boy. Think twigs and berries. His jingle bells were about 5 times their normal size. Ok, thats not true....I actually never even knew he had any...doesnt a neuter take them away? His twig....um....well....it was more like a log.

I dont mean to be vulgar, but he has never been like this before. He came to me neutered and has never displayed any desire to be romantic. He looked at me like he was Anthony and I was his Cleopatra.

Ok, so am I naive? What is a neuter??? I always thought they took away testicles. If not.....then what? Whatever he was doing, he obviously had just finished...he had semen on him.

Seriously....w-what? Can someone explain this to me?

are you positive he is neutered? When a male is neutered, his testicles are removed so he would not have any testicles if he was neutered. I'm not sure if a neutered male can get an erection and ejaculate or not...if so it wouldn't have any sperm in it...just fluids from the prostate.. The testicles would be where his scrotum is..a little sac straight down from his anus between his legs. The "balls" you are describing could be the bulbus glandis which are erectile tissue of the penis..it forms a bulb at the base of the penis and grows larger when they get an erection...it is NOT the testicles though.

Actually they do have a way of fixing males without cutting the balls off. Sorry for the bluntness. Zues my big kitty has his testicles but was fixed. They use the shots that kill all the testosterone and sperm stuff to make babies. So my kitty is intact but his "goods" are useless.

Well...thank you for this, you eased my mind. He definately had an erection, but what I thought were testicles were at the base of his penis, so hopefully they are the bulbus glandis you mentioned. But there was ejaculate. I know it was not urine because of its colour and consistancy.

Because I didnt catch him in the act, I dont know if he was humping anything. The only thing he has in his pen is his bed, food/water and a couple of toys. In anyone's experience, will he start humping regularly?

how very odd that he should suddenly "grow a pair". :D maybe give the vet a call there could be something hormonal going on. They can also neuter by just cutting the tubes (like what they do to humans!) the body continues to make testosterone and sperm but the sperm doesn't go anywhere. But I wouldn't have thought it's a very common way to neuter.

Well there was another yorkie there. I cant remember if it was a boy or girl. Ok, I'm slow today...that must be it. I was thinking the groomer was a sick dog molester. Seriously. OMG :rolleyes:

OK this is going to sound really stupid, but are you positive that its your dog? I know it seems really far fetched, but it might be a slight possibility.

and are you sure that he was neutered when you got him?

No, it doesnt sound stupid. I know it's my dog. Max was a complete monkey before, and he's still a monkey. (Besides, they didn't exactly listen when I said to cut his hair down to 2 inches...he basicly looks the same as he did)

The only assurance I have that he was neutered is that his breeder said she did. I trust her and other YT members do too. From what I gather, she neuters/spays before she sends out pet quality yorkies.

Those two hard little "lumps" are NOT his testicles. It is a bulbous enlargement at the base of the penis, which contains a small bone. This is what locks the dog and bitch together in the "tie". It is NOT removed when the dog is neutered.

Ha ha ha. The same thing happened to me and I had the same thought. LOL. Newman had been neutered too and all of a sudden I heard my son who was about 10 yrs. old then screaming "OMG OMG Mom Mom Newman has something big and red hanging out of him. Hubby was still up in bed and heard him and kind of knew what it was and I'm yelling for him and he screams back down, I'm not coming down. You tell him." LOLOL. Well, I took him in the bathroom as my son stayed hysterical thinking something was wrong with our dog and I put a little ice on him (Had to call the vet to ask by the way and really felt dumb) and then had to go out and explain to a 10 yr. old boy where the big red thing hanging went." Oh yes neutered males still get erections, we refer to it as their big lipstick YUCK! Haven't seen any lipstick on Rambeau yet but the labs . . . different and amazing story. They could have vesectomized your boy but probably not. When he is in a relaxed state, check for blackeyed peas between his back legs. Chances are, the new smells and experience just turned him on. Previous poster was correct the prostate, bulbo urethral gland and seminal vesicles can all produce fluid. Usually this doesn't happen to a dog that has been neutered for a while. If this was a new and exciting experience who knows. I wouldn't worry about it though - boys will be boys ;) Have your vet double check next time your there.

Just wanted to state that dogs only have ONE accessory sex gland - a prostate. While humans have all three accessory sex glands, dogs only have a prostate.

when I worked at a dog boutique/grooming salon, we'd get many "happy" intact males on the grooming table...so gross!

Yup as a groomer we see alot of excited males. A few weeks back one of the groomers was working on an unneutered male (i forget the breed) and it was hanging out the entire time like he had just bred with a female. Kinda gross. She actually made a towel into a bellyband so she could finish grooming him, he wouldnt sit still and she was afraid of nicking him in the area. Thankfully it went back in when she was done grooming lol
