question about Oster Golden 5 clipper Why is it getting so hot? I just got mine and tried it today. But after i shaved personal area with number 10 blade - it got so hot - just the clipper itself (blade was cool). I couldn't even hold it anymore and had to turn it off for a while. Also how offten do i have to put lubricate oil on blades if i'm grooming a yorkie 3.8 pounds? It says to put oil even in between so it stays sharp. Do i really have to do it? or its enough to take care of the blades after i'm done. thank you:-) P.S. My dog is not behaved at all during grooming - so every minute counts. |
That's weird because I have the same clipper, the 2 speed one and I can use it while grooming a 13 lber and it didn't get very hot!! I spray that cool lube on it as I am using it but the housing that I hold only got a little warm. I would call or email Oster, maybe yours is defective right out of the box and maybe they will advise you or send you a new one!! Good Luck! |
Mine starts to get hot after grooming about 5 dogs. I just switch to my other one. You might want to get it serviced or see if it is still under warrantee. |
We have only used ours a couple times so far, but I would say it only got slightly warm. Nothing like what you are describing. I'm hoping someone can elaborate more on the cooling spray, oil, etc... The lube oil came with our clippers and we bought blade wash and the cooling spray, but I'm not totally clear on the correct process either! |
thank you. sending it back to exchange. |
send it back That model should not heat up so fast. I think you have a defective clipper. Usually the blades get hot waaaaay before the clipper itself would. I would exchange it for another one. Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork Quote:

I am a groomer and I NEVER use cooling spray. I would say you should buy a second blade to switch off when the first one starts to get warm. You could burn your dogs tender skin with a blade that gets too hot. I always touch the blade to the inner part of my arm to check the temp. When it is warm I change the blade. Cooling sprays are not good for the life of the blades and I believe they are dangerous for humans who might inadvertently inhale some of the spray...JMHO... Sue & Cricket :aimeeyork Quote:
