How do you clean around eyes? I used a cloth damp with a little water. Very wiggly-and I expected it more clean than that. |
I have a little teasing comb that i use to get those boogers out! Somtimes i'll use a little warm water to really get them good. A similar thread was posted and a YT member suggested a tooth brush. I thought that was a great idea. |
I wash my boys' faces with a warm, damp cloth (dampened with distilled water) and a tiny bit of baby shampoo. I also use a flea comb on their faces. They didn't like it at first, but they are so used to it now that they don't even move. They know it's part of their bedtime ritual. In fact, when I say "let's wash faces", they run toward the bathroom land wait for me to get things ready lol My vet told me to give them distilled water to drink, and that will help with the runny eyes. It seems to work great! |
I also use a damp wash cloth on little Pippin's eye boogies. Then I use a small flee comb to get the rest of it out of his hair. It works well because of the tiny teeth on the comb. |
I use a q-tip wet with warm water for the eye boogies then I just use a regular rat tail comb to comb his face out and a brush to make it look fluffy |
I just use paper towel, damp with warm water :) |
I use the little cosmetic sponges. They are cut into triangles which helps getting into the corners, especially on the little ones. I dip them in warm water; they work really well. Once I get the gunk softened, I comb through starting with coarse teeth and finishing with a flea comb.To dis-infect the sponges, I rinse them and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |
Yep, a little finger toothbrush works great! That's one of the first things I learned on YT. YorkieTalk rocks!! :D |
i use a flea comb, then a warm rag... or vise versa |
Another really neat thing to use is a mascara brush (sorry if that is spelled incorrectly I don't wear any make up) Make sure the brush has not been used to apply mascara. It is very small has tiny bristles and gets in there really good. Only problem is I for the life of me can't remember where I got mine. I belive a friend got me one. I love it. Roni |

I use a really small comb, to get the gunk. I do it 1-2 times a week. Its a must! Meka recently stayed two weeks w/ my grandmother, who didnt do it at all...and I almost cried having to do it. If you dont stay on top of it, it will harden up and its not a pretty pic... They dont like it, but they need it :) |

I put a little water on a mustache comb (from a man's grooming kit) it combs the eye boogies right out!! It is about 1 and 1/2" long. |

I moisten a cottonball with eye solution, this helps refreshen around the eyes... |
Can you use baby wipes for around their eyes? |
I warm some distilled water and use a baby wash cloth with a tiny bit of Buddy Wash to wash my guys' faces. If your dog has a lot of eye gunk, a flea comb is good to comb the area when you're cleaning it. A good way to help with the eye gunk is to give them distilled water to drink. My vet told me this, and my boys never have runny eyes.:) |
I don't mean to bring up and old post (great suggestions by the way!), but I was wondering if there are any tips on cleaning eye boogies period. Maximus nips at me whenever I come near his eyes (in a playful way). I do find that after his bath he is easier to clean up, but still, what do I do in between his baths? LOVE LOVE the suggestion using a little toothbrush or mascara brush, now, if I can just get to his eye without him showing me his teeth. |
My Cocker Spaniel doesn't like his face cleaned, but I just use warm water on a cotton pad. I feel bad when I do this since he doesn't like it, but I hold his muzzle with one hand so he can't nip at me or get away, and then wipe his eyes with the cotton pad in my other hand. I give him love and treats after, and he forgives me :). |
I use warm water on a toothbrush with medium bristles. It has made such a difference because not only does it get the eye gunk but it also can be used to was their faces. But it does help if they aren't wiggling. Since I started showing Friday she has gotten really good at staying still while she is being groomed. |
