Help - The hair dresser shaved it all off I took Diva in for a haircut since she was matted and the girl shaved the hair on her tail off as well. Has anyone else's ever done this? |
I've see lots of Yorkies shaved down for one reason or another. They don't seem to mind a bit. ;) |
Usually they don't have to shave everything; they leave the face, topknot, and tail. You might try using Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine; it's great for removing mats. This is usually why they shave them. If you dress her often, mats can become a problem even for silky coats, but especially for cotton coats. If her hair is oily, put the Cowboy Magic on before bath and brush out mats. Shampoo and condition as usual. If hair is dry, do the same thing, but add a little Cowboy Magic after the bath as well. After you brush her, it good to follow up with the comb close to the skin so you know all the tangles are gone, otherwise they turn into mats. Under the arms and around the groin are places to check carefully. |
Hi, This is my first post/reply. My boyfriend and I have a four month old yorkie and brought her to the groomers for the first time on Friday. (The vet told us we had to wait until she got her rabies vaccine before bringing her to see the groomer). When we arrived for her appointment, the groomer told me that she had to be shaved, because she was too matted. I was devastated. When I picked her up she looked nothing like my little puppy that I had dropped off. This is our first dog, so we thought we were doing all of the right things. We would brush her everyday. I guess we were using the wrong type of brush. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know. We will be bringing her to the groomer every 6 weeks (groomer suggested this), so she will not have to be shaved again. Before she was shaved, she was a nice black/tan color. Does anyone know if her fur will grow back the same color, or a different color? :animal36 Just thought I'd share my story with you:) |
Buy yourself a good pin brush to brush puppy. Brush thoroughly every day. Personally I don't think they need to be groomed every six weeks either....as in a cut. Her hair may come back in dark...usually the hair on their heads changes first and then the adult coat starts to break along their backs. |
Awww, well, much to my chagrin, Ginger gets shaved annually due to allergies (I shave her, so I'm sure it's not even as good a job as your groomer did)...she never seems to mind, and seriously, walks are a lot easier without "Miss Velcro-Butt" picking up everything she steps over.;):) To the previous poster, a yorkie's coat color often changes dramatically from the black and tan of puppyhood. Only time will tell. Look at the pics of grown up yorkies here just to see what I mean. Most began as black and tan pups. I find the easiest places to matt are under the arms and chin, so just be sure you're brushing those out daily, that should help. To both of you, WELCOME TO YORKIETALK!!!
