HELP! Powder for Plucking Ears? Tatum is going NUTS today with scratching inside her ears and I think it could very well be due to the fact that they need to be plucked. I looked in them a few minutes and did see hair that needs to come out, so I think that this is what the problem is. I know this is going to sound horrible, but I have never plucked her ears before  Anyway my question is....do they have the Powder available at Petsmart that you use when plucking their ears? I know I can order it online, but I REALLY need to do this today....she is just going crazy and I want to get that hair plucked out ASAP. If someone could let me know if this is available at Petsmart, I will run right now and pick it up so that I can get my poor babies ears plucked...and Stedman's too while I'm at it! Thanks in advance! |
:aimeeyorkI am not so sure by yours but I know mines do carry it. (Can you call the store?) Here's a video that I used to teach myself! I had no idea how to use the ear powder How to Clean a Dog's Ears | ExpertVillage Videos |

Thanks everyone for the help! :D Just got back form Petsmart a little while ago and they did have some so I picked it up and will be attempting to pluck the babies ears in a few  Hopefully all will go smoothly, LOL. I'm worried about Stedman though...he hates EVERYTHING...say a prayer  lol. Thanks again! |
I use the powder in all my kids ears, placing it with a Q-tip! BUT I only pluck a few hairs every other day until they are all gone. I also use an ear wash to clean the canal with. They don't like it but they never yelp so I know it is not hurting them and is much better for their ears...JMHO |

Well.......I DID IT :D I am an official Yorkie Ear Plucker! :D :p The babies did not mind it one single bit...not even STEDMAN! They just sat there and let me do it and didn't make even the tiniest of peeps :D Such good little babies they were! I am so proud of them (ok I know I sound totally nuts now  - but just bare with me here...I am having a "mommy moment, LOL) - I was just nervous at first because this is something that I personally haven't ever done before and I didn't want to hurt them....but I will be doing it from now on :p Tatum seems to feel MUCH better! She hasn't scratched at her ears even ONCE since I plucked :D YAY!!! :cheer: |
Oh good! I'm happy it seemed to help with Tatum's scratching! I was a lil nervous about plucking too. I thought I'd get grossed out or worry too much about hurting him. but, it wasn't bad at all! He goes to sleep while I do it sometimes. |

Maybe Tatum will eventually end up falling asleep when I do it too....heck, she does it when I bathe her, why not when I pluck her ears, lol! :p |
OMG Brooke your so brave...I can not even bring myself to clip the nails on my two. GOSH maybe thats why Mia is the alpha dog - she knows I am scared - ha, ha....what a mess I am! :D |
Sandy and Brooke thanks so much for posting this. I don't do this since our groomer does it but you never know that someday I might have to. I always wondered how to pluck and use the ear powder..now I know. Great post you guys! |

As for the nails, I only do Tatum's myself - NOT Stedman's....I won't even go into how bad he is when we attempt to trim his nails on our own  I take him to the vet to have his nails trimmed and believe it or not...it takes the person trimming his nails PLUS 3 other nurses to hold him down...and he is only 4 lbs  LOL. He is so so bad! |
