Baby has semi-cottony coat My Pookiebear is 15 weeks old and his coat is sort of cottony on his body, but is very silky on his head. I'm concerned that his adult coat is not going to be silky. Both his mom and dad are very silky. I usually dry him with the blow dryer, but I put lots of conditioner on him. Right now I'm using mane and tail shampoo and conditioner on him. Need to know if there is a better product to help make his coat silkier. He's starting to turn silver on his head and on his paws, and it seems that the tan color is the dryest. He has a very thick fluffy coat, I just want it to be silkier! Hope someone has some suggestions for me. Thanks, all of you guys out there are great! |
I think thats just the way a puppy coat is. My Britain was a fluff ball as a baby but now she has a nice silky coat. I dont think you can tell this early. |
Yes, I agree, both my girls were fluff balls when they were puppies and now their coats are long and silky. I think it's just puppy fur also. Almost forgot, Welcome to YT :woof::woof: |
Jewels has that kind of coat and i use pantene condioner on her and her hair lays flat like its silky You also need to brush cotton coats everyday |
I'm having these same issues with Baxter, He is 3 1/2 months old. |

Personally I kind of like the cotton coat. Bentley is almost 3 now with a cotton coat so i keep him cut short and he looks like a bear! :p Louie is 4 mos, with silky head and cotton body, just like your boy. I'm not sure how he's goin to turn out (mom=silky & dad=cotton) The products may improve the texture of the hair, but it won't fully change the hair structure from cotton to silky. Either way, he's going to be as cute as a button. :) |

Izzy is the same way, she is 6 months old and her head is silky and the rest of her body is kind of cottony. I was thinking of clipping down her body part to she how that will do. |

Conner had a real cottony coat until he was almost a year old. He had to be brushed every day, or would get mats on his legs like you wouldn't believe. I was constantly brushing, and he hated it. Now he has regular hair, but I keep his hair short, because he is always scratching when his hair is long, and he has a tendency to look like a ragamuffin. He is always taking his paws to rub his head and mustache. That's when I know it is time for another clipping. |
