haircolor gone bad, need help!!! My dog has just returned from the handler with a terrible hair color situation and I need help. She told me she used "color enhancing shampoo" on him, but it has to be more than that...He's naturally a light silver-blue but now he looks more brownish. I tried washing out one small section of hair and can see blackish stuff coming off though the hair still looks brownish afterwards. I'd like to show him myself, but haven't a clue how to fix this mess on his coat. Help, please...Thank you, Belinda:confused: |

Thank you so much! What is clarifying shampoo, and where do I get it? This is very distressing as his hair is otherwise gorgeous. I wouldn't have colored him, would have taken the chance of showing him lighter. Is this normal, for the color enhancer product to turn the hair brown, or is this the process of the black wearing off? Thanks again, Belinda |

I'll try that tonight... I can't tank you enough. What a terrible feeling to see that color and fearing it wasn't removable. What is black rage? Is that an acceptable thing to use on a show dog? Is it supposed to make them black? There used to be stuff I haven't seen around in a long time, made to enhance human gray hair--silkn'silver something or other. I would have thought that would be something to try on a dog to get the silver a little darker or bluish. Thanks again, Belinda :animal-pa |

If the handler used something that opens the cuticle and lifts pigment at all you may be seeing the dogs underlying pigment. Is his gold on the dark side? I would ask the handler exactly what she used as some human color enhancing shampoos and conditioners will lift pigment especially on colored hair. Human products are more acidic than pet products so they can react differently on dogs than humans especially if the hair is damaged to start with. |
his gold is deep Definitely gold, not tan. This handler is not going to want to cooperate with me on this and will only admit to using color enhancing shampoo. I suppose if I wash his out in the detergent Brooklynn recommended, and it doesn't work, then I'll know it's a permanent dye. His hair is extrmemly long and thick, and silky feeling and does not have that brittle feel my own hair gets when it's damaged from dying, if that means anything...Thank you so so much. :animal-pa |

Right, I didn't think of that There was definitely black residue rubbing off onto my hands while I was brushing and oiling him, and the same when I washed a section. What alarmed me was when washing didn't seem to be changing the color. Stuff was coming off but the hair still had a definite brown color to it. Well, I feel better that it's not hopeless yet. If I can get him back to normal I'll need advice on safe ways to darken him a bit for showing. Thanks again:animal-pa |

Baby shampoo is also a stripper that doesn't harm the dog's eyes if you get it in there. It will take time but eventually, it'll wash out. Good luck! |
A color enhancing shampoo would be out in one wash. Black Rage should come out with one or two shampoos. There are some spray on chalks that can be stubborn. If a chalk was used, it is possible that something was put on the coat first to hold it on. I would think that only chalk would come off on your hands. Is the coat dull? |
