Restraints So I was thinking....... do you guys know what your groomer uses to restrain your dog while at the groomers? I know Franklin is SO squirmy, they must have some sort of magic trick. I got to thinking, and I bet they use a slip collar on him... because that's just what's practical. I never thought to ask. What do your groomers use? AND, if they do indeed use a slip collar, is this okay? It's only for a little bit every 4-6 months.. is there a CT concern? |
I've been wondering the same thing! Xavier is going Saturday to be groomed for the first time and I'm worried about the slip collar causing CT...Is that silly of me? |
They use a slip collar or noose. It isn't going to hurt UNLESS the dog pulls. Then it is just like having a collar attached to a leash. The only way I would allow one of those to be used at the groomers is if they agreed to put it around his chest, not his neck. I don't want to scare you but please also make sure they do not leave him even for a minute because, with that around the neck, I think I've heard of dogs jumping off the table and getting strangled. I just groom myself and don't have to worry about it.:) |
They really shouldn't even look away while the dog is restrained. My groomer is always right there with her eyes on the dog. Her assistant steps in if she has to move away at all. If neither can be right there they put the dog on the floor to play until they can get back to grooming. We were at a local dog fair (all kinds of vendors where there) and one booth was a groomer who was doing nail trims on the spot for $10. The booth was right in front of us as we walked in. The groomer was looking down at his finger and a medium sized dog was on the table with a groomer's noose on. The assistant was looking at the groomer's finger too. The dog (medium sized) slipped off the table a bit and scrambled back on and the groomer and the assistant had no idea that anything had happened. This is the inattention they are willing to show to the public. I couldn't imagine what must happen in the privacy of their shop. Scary stuff. |
