How Long It Take?
 
Hello!

I have question for show dog owners. How often do you re-wrap the yorkies hair and how long it take just to comb one dog?

I re-wrap when needed but only if they get knotted. I can usually re-wrap once a week but that is if Radar isn't running outside and playing then I have to take some out and re-do

Thank you very much Brooklynn. I am asking becouse I re-wrap my yorki every second day and I spend 3-4 hours just to comb him if I want to tangle out all knots.
I don`t think this is normal. Why do you think is that?

Are you combing out dry? If so that is the worse thing to do on a yorkie show coat. And I use coat oil when I have my dogs in wrappers and that usually keeps the matts away and I just use my fingers to pry away at the knot. Usually I can get my dog done in about 2 hours from start to finish. That is a bath first of course. Maybe the yorkie doesn't have a silky texture? Maybe it's more course? Radar's coat is so silky it doesn't matt so bad

No not dry. I always put oil before wraps him. I use oil in final rinse and add a little oil on end of coat before I wrap it. When I make re-wraping I just spray a little bit a coat, tangle out knots and comb him.

Connor's coat is dry and has always been a bit of a pain. I put him in light oil and wrap him. I rewrap him every 3 days and it usually only takes about 1/2 hour. Occationally I will even find a peice of grass in there, he's quite the little hoodlum!

Hmmmm so I was right. 3-4 hours is much too much if I re-wrap him every 2 days.
Is there anybody with the same problem?

would one of you mind explaining to me what you mean by "wrap"? I'm new at this Yorkie breed (my puppy is 4 mos) and is not a show dog, but I was just reading this thread and had to ask...interesting
