My yorkies hair I took my 5 month old yorkie in to get groomed, her name is Belle...well dropped her off and when my husband picked her up they had shaved her fur short, theres no length at all. I had told the woman that Belle's hair was short enough that she would probally just need to trim around her face. My question is does anyone no how long it will take for her hair to grow back?? Thanks! SueSue |
Welcome to YT!! We are happy to have you :) I'm sorry you had a bad experience at the groomers :( I'm not sure how long it will take to grow out but maybe someone else can help answer that one. I would love to see pictures of Belle! :p |
:welcome4: TO YORKIETALK!! Sorry to hear about that horrible groomer....I would be looking into a new groomer....I am lucky to have one (when I take mine to a groomer) where I can stay and watch. But years and years ago I had taken Mojo to one and I said to take off an inch...AND she took him down to an inch!!! I didn't pay...I was furious...but if I recall, it didn't take long at all for the hair to come in. |
Welcome to YT, sorry I can't answer your question, my furbaby is still only 11weeks old :) no cutting yet! but welcome :) and I'm sure someone else can tell ya! |
This is why I am scared to take mine to the groomer. Tessa is almost 5mths too and I just do little trims at home. I was under the impression that Yorkie hair grew like human hair, so I would have to say about 6-8 wks? |
It's so obnoxious when groomers trim your baby too short. I've had to keep switching groomers and still haven't found one I that I love. I don't exactly how long it will take to grow back, but I can say that it grows faster than you think! |
oh thats horrible. i had the same thing happen to me around xmas. i said.. trim some off the bottom... just a little.. and she SHAVED HIS BACK TO LIKE 1/8 of an inch. he was naked!!! I dont understand how they can make that big of a mistake? I wanted to cry. Its growing back though, but not as fast as I want. its like 2 inches now |
The groomer should not have shaved you dog unless he was badly matted. I have a friend that is a groomer that gets Yorkies and other dogs that are so badly matted that she has no choice but shave them. Some puppies coats are bad about matting and the owners might not even be aware of it because the mats are so close to the skin. I am not saying this was the case with your puppy but for other that take their dogs to the groomer, realize a groomer cannot spend hours and hours trying to get all the mats out, so your must keep your puppy brushed and combed. Your babies coat will grow back at the same rate it took it to get to the length that was before it was cut off. |
Welcome to YT. That is the very reason that I trim Murfee myself. He has been to the groomer once when he was a puppy. He is 4 now and never been back. I am by no means a professional but he looks cute to me. |
Welcome to YT & Sorry about the bad experiance at the groomers! The hair will grow out soon |
Hi and welcome to yt:) Sorry you had such a bad experience, It will take a while, i had molly shaved when she was 4mths and she is now finally getting longer..She will be 11mths next wed, I can not understand why these groomers can not LISTEN:mad: I have been trying to groom myself;) it may not be the best, But at least I know, they are not getting mistreated. |
Welcome! I myself had a horrible experience w/ Sadie's first grooming; we live in New England and took her to the groomers in the middle of winter. She wasn't horribly matted so I was soooooo upset when the "puppy cut" they had given her translated into "shaved with a little hair around the face." I was upset because it was so short but also because it was WINTER in NEW ENGLAND and the poor thing shivered for weeks. I think it was a combination of the cold and I really do think they weren't all that nice to her. But luckily I relented and took her to a different groomer months later and their "puppy cut" really does look adorable....I tell her she looks like a little reindeer, she's allllll leg with this cut, it's so cute. Bottom line is, it's traumatizing but the hair really does grow back pretty quickly. Try not to worry too much and tell your puppy that he/she looks adorable. :) |
I took Cinderella to a different groomer the one time, and asked for cute puppy cut. The woman cut her hair down to next to nothing. She was also 5 months old. Cinderella was not well for weeks, because the groomer also cut her vulva hair too short, and was poking her tender skin down there. She couldn't even walk. She would just sit, and even at that, she would jump up and freak out as she sniffed down there. I guess the newly, sharp cut hair was too prickly for her. Sigh...what an ordeal she went through. I called my regular groomer who has been grooming my shihtzu for almost 10 years, and she knew right away what type of cute Cinderella had without even seeing her. Commonly called the "schnauzer cut" or "puppy cut". When I asked her how long it would take for Cinderella's hair to go back to how it looked before, she said the most interesting thing. "Well, if Cinderella has never had her hair cut since she was born....and she's 5 months old...then I think it will be safe to say that it will take 5 months for it to grow back to exactly how it looked like before you cut her hair!". Is that not totally true? It made total sense to me, I don't know about other member here though:p |
I would probably literally kill a groomer if they shaved Lacy... I would seriously be so pissed. I groom her myself and will always groom my dogs...I don't trust anyone else. I hear of way too many shave stories...it might just be "hair that will grow back" to a groomer but it takes WAY too much time to grow a coat out to let some idiot chop it off |
It takes about a month for them to get furry again. About 3 months to have short hair ( maybe 3 inches). Is your pup taking it out on you like mine did to me (see video below)? |
I just wanna say I have never had the experience of a bad groomer but my boy was just shaved totally for major surgery and the doctor told me for him to be like normal again will be one year .... Long hair 6 months but totally normal will take one year so he gets his cast off in 2 weeks I can not wait to let his hair grow out... I am gonna do Bleu just like I do my boys and my husband.. I go with them when they get their hair cut and I say this: Before you cut my son or husbands hair .. remember we use a number 3 cut with scissors on the top and go in this direction.. do not take your clippers and shave straight back.. Oh and by the way I will stand right here to help you and make sure I like it... I will do the same with Bleu and if they do not follow my directions it will not be good and I will let EVERYONE I KNOW know about it! I do not fear they will mess up because I am monitoring every move... Untill I find someone I trust ! I also cut hubby and boys hair and will probally do Bleus but it is not for them to have a professional cut about once a month too:rolleyes: |
I've never had my oldest ones hair cut(she's 5 now), but, she did have a tumor where she had to be shaved around where they removed the tumor, which was a few mos. ago, and it's just now starting to grow back, but is still very short. I can't complain about my groomer, she always does as she's told..and, if I don't say anything to her, she always makes sure she asks me.. |
Yorkies grow at a rate of approximately 1/4 of an inch per month, some more, some less. This thread makes me appreciate my groomer so much. |
I learned my lesson last time with Gracie. The next time she goes I will ask for one of two girls and if they are not available then she will not be groomed then. I was not happy with the cut but, I guess we live and learn. |
Welcome to YT! Glad to have you and belle here with us! She is beautiful! i bet her hair will grow back in no time!!! Can't wait to see a lot of pictures and hear fun stories about her! :) |
Welcome to YT! I had a bad experience at PetCo, I told them to ONLY trim the nails/pads and bum... they CUT the eyebrows and moustache areas... GRRR! Also, Zoe was very traumatized in fact, when we went to PetCo the next time she just shivered the entire time. I felt horrible. Now, I do it myself! It is a great bonding time for all of us and they LOVE it! |
Crisis 1 Attachment(s) I've had my perfect little Yorkie for about a month now. She is about 3 months old and just absolutely great. Her tummy and back hair were getting pretty tangled, she's a feisty little player, so I went to get her first haircut. I wanted her cute long face and legs still grown out, and they said they should shave her belly and back because of the tangles that it will help grow back strong and healthy and I could keep up combing it. So I come back and they buzzed her entire body! She looks like a Schauzner..... I'm so absolutely devastated and don't know what to do :( she's been acting very mean ever since the haircut and I feel horrible!!!!!!!! I need advice!!!!! Help :( She used to look like my Profile Picture now she is my uploaded picture. How long will it take to grow back :( please give me good news!!!! - Depressed Yorkie Mom </3 |
She is a cutie. What is her name? I understand being upset that you did not get the hairstyle you wanted. Finding a good Yorkie groomer can be a really big challenge. The majority of groomers are always going to shave if they cannot easily run the comb through the hair. In other words, zero tangles. I would recommend either grooming at home (which is what I do and many others here do), or try to find another Yorkie family in your area with groomer recommendations. You can also try to seek out a Yorkie exhibitor who does grooming on the side. Hair growth speed depends on genetics. I kept Max's hair fairly short until he was about 6 months, and he had a full coat at 1 year of age. Comb and brush every single day. This will help with tangles and stimulate growth. Give her a massage too. A good conditioner will also help with tangles. My boys play hard, so I know it can be a challenge. Also, these little ones are very sensitive to our emotions. She may be picking up on your unhappiness with her hair, or she feels different, or she had a bad experience with the groomer. Tell her she is darling (which she is!) and convince her how pretty she is. Lots of extra loving. :) |
