My new puppy stinks! Tucker smells! No matter how many baths he gets he smells and his hair feels rough and stiff. Maybe I'm not getting all the shampoo out of his hair? I've smelled his ears and his breath and it's not coming from them. He was checked at the vet and given a clean bill of health 2 days ago. What could be the problem? It kind of smells like dried spit if that makes any sense. Not a poopy smell, or bad breath smell, just a very strong stale type smell. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. He still smells today and he had a bath last night! |
It's possible it could be from the food he is eating. I've noticed some brands of food give one of my girls a body odor. The food may accont for his hair feeling rough and stiff. Sheila |
Poor Stinky Tucker!! :( I agree - maybe food? Reggie had a "body odor" - I thought he was just getting an "old man" smell :D but when we switched to Nutro, the smell went away. |
Could it be the tearing from the eyes. That can be pretty stinky. |
Could be an allergy...I know Paris #1 has an allergy to grass. The minute she starts to get itchy...the smell starts. It took a while to put 2 & 2 together but now we control it...and I have a fresh smelling Paris! |
Allergic reaction to food can cause this. Also you can rinse him in white vinegar to see if that helps and then see if this works or how long before the smell comes back. Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |
I switched to distilled water and chewy's eyes are much better now. You could try this to see if it helps! His eyes don't stink but I wash them every single day. |
Well I took it upon myself to play groomer and I cut away all the "nasty hair" I brushed him before and it did a little bit, but so much of the hair was stiff and gross that it had to go. He's a much softer, less smelly version of himself, but he's still a bit smelly. I'm hoping it will improve with time. Thank you for all your help and comments! |
