Yorkie mustaches help please I'm Not getting any replies in the general section: any one here have any suggestions: I need help with Lacie's mustache!!!! I just won't behave! It is either sticking stright out or hanging down full of crutsy stuff. She is the only one I have that has the long mustache. All of her hair is longer and finder then the others. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR YORKIE MUSTACHES?????? Can it be thined out with out cutting it off?? I'd like it to lay down (hang down) Please help |
I don't know how long her facial hair is but it should lay down the longer it gets. If it is getting dirty while she eats and that's where the "crusty" stuff is coming from, you can band it while she is eating. If she has fine hair I wouldn't think you would want to thin it out. |
I guess I meant triming it. If you remove some of the upper hair will that help it to lay down more? It sticks out like a handle bar mustache does. |
My Otis's sticks out too, I've been looking around to see if there's anything safe to put on it to keep it down. I guess maybe vasoline. Any other idea's. Otis has a handlebar too!! |
How long is her mustache? You mentioned in your post it was fairly long. If there is no reason you are keeping it long your best bet would be to cut it shorter. Show dogs that grow their mustaches out are always wrapped up so that they dont get it in their food/water and most importantly that they dont chew it off. The wiskers in the hair are what is causing it to stand out and not lay flat. Again, in show dogs, these hairs are cut out so that the hair lays nice and evenly. You figure, everywhere she sticks her nose her mustache is in it too. Also, if she has over productive tear ducts this can add to the mess allowing goop and red yeast to colonize. I am sure you both would be happier with a shorter mustache! |
Also, if she has over productive tear ducts this can add to the mess allowing goop and red yeast to colonize. Is there anything that can be done for the over productive tear ducts??? And what is the red yeast?? I've never heard of it. My Teddy and Galahad has the goop I wash it out everyday with plain water and a wash cloth. Beside cutting it is there anything U can do or get to help it not collect so bad. Teddy has a cottony coat and Galahad is a heavy silk. Thanks so much for U're advice. |
Do not cut the hair around her eyes to keep it clean from her tear ducts. If you do, it will make it worse as it grows out. It will poke her in the eyes and make it very uncomfortable. It takes time to grow out the mustache area. As it grows longer, it will start to lay down more. Also check out Ice on Ice, It claims to help prevent the food from sticking in the hair. |

I've not cut their hair around their eyes at all or their mustashes...Right now we're doing pretty good I get up every single morning after they eat and was their beards and face and clean their eyes with water and comb it out and I also have a flea comb that is great at getting all the gunk out that our other comb can't get out or the washcloth don't get out. They are wearing their poinies better altho Sage is still our snatcher if I don't watch her and I've noticed Sofie doing it too but only had one come out today out of 5 so that's really good lol...They are learning and me too...Not to turn my back on them! LOL! |
