Grooming yourself?!?!? Remember when you were a kid and decided that you could cut hair too?!?! Now, age 30, I am getting that ol hankering to be my dogs hairdresser!!!! hahaha... Anyone else do their own grooming and how did you learn? |
I just trim around the corner of his eyes to keep hair out of it and trim around his butt. thats it.. i cant do anything else |
i wish i did i would save alot of money i can barely brush her without her trying to wiggle or bite me...good for u that is so great |
Yes I started last summer when Buddy would not go back to the groomer's. I had no choice. I have leaned alot from a DVD I purchased on e-bay. It was a great help. Then I learned as I groomed him. The great thing about grooming yourself is you can just trim as needed and it's free! The body and legs I have accomplished but the face takes me time. The hair is soooooooooo thick around the face it drives me up the wall and he gets impatient. I really haven't screwed things up to much as yet. I'm told he looks great. |
Right now I do the paws, ears and there nails. Everything else I have just been letting grow out. I know that I am going to have to learn with the puppies going through that bad hair stage. WooHoo. I really do enjoy doing there hair and I don't have to put up with bad groomers any more. Give it a try and the worst thing that can happen is that you will have to let it grow again. Which only takes a few weeks. I say give it a try. Good luck. |
I tip the ears, shave around her bottom, have tried to clip her nails but I'm a scardy cat and can't bring myself to do it! I guess that's the only thing I DON'T do is clip her nails. I take her to a grommer and they do her nails for a total of $2.00. I have had them "round her feet off" before, she doesn't like me to touch her feet and they only charged $3.00 for that. I use to trim the hair in the corner of her eyes, but now I have let it grow out and I don't have to worry about it getting in her eyes anymore. I learned by trial and error. Never made any bad mistakes, but remember it is only hair and will grow back. |
Hahaha :p I do groom my babies myself, I used to groom my Cocker Spaniel myself too. I just taught myself :) |
Archie, your grooming looks great. Think I'll try buying a DVD. Been doing it on my own because one of my rescue Yorkies is terrified of other people. Forced me to do it on my own. Takes me days. Always seeing some clump of hair that is not even. You're a great inspiration. Joanne :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :dog: |
I groom Ellie myself. It is so much safer then leaving her with a "groomer" who doesn't have a clue... I have never watched a video on scissor cutting. And, I don't use clippers. I made a spot on her bald once with them and she hates the vibrating anyway. |
I groom mine myself too, all of it. I'm too afraid they will pick up a sickness at a groomers. |
I started out groming my cocker spaniel's and then moved on to our schnauzers and I have started grooming the girls myself I just don't trust the groomers around here. I just bought a grooming book and started I figure it's just hair and if I boo boo it will grow back and I can try again.:p |
I groom Jamie myself. I couldn't find a groomer in my area that didn't want me to leave him all day so they could stick him in a kennel. Well that was just not gonna work! SOOO I sat down one night with a bag of Yorkie Yummies and pair of scissors, a comb, and nail clippers and voila! Just think "If anybody's gonna mess this up, it should be me!" |
so far i have groomed dexter myself. i plan on keeping him in a puppy cut so it is pretty easy. all i do is twist his hair in sections and snip off a little bit. around the eyes has scared me a little but hes getting pretty good at holding still. the only reason i do it myself is that im not one to really fuss over how my dog looks and kinda like a little scruffy looking furbutt! :p and if i mess up, it will always grow back, right!? :( :D |
I do all mine too...it is so expensive grooming my first two but when I got my oher three  so, I had to learn  . Also, I did not like the idea bof leaving my babies all day at the groomers now it just takes me all day... |
I do :) Meka has yet to go to a groomer... Ive just been so scared in the past... I purchased a set of pet clippers w/ DVD and it works for me. Still learning though :D |
Grooming myself is what I SHOULD have done!! Pixie's first groom last week was not good! I could have done a better job myself...seriously! watching this woman hack at pixie's hair..there was no skill involved! and it would have been far less stressful for pixie, I had to trim the long hairs the 'groomer' missed and pixie stood calmly still while I did it! she spent most of the time trying to escape when the groomer touched her! If i can't find a good reputable groomer I will be doing it myself! |
I actually took Cosmetology & decided not to do it for a living because I don't like ppl hair that I dont know... lol... But I cut my bf's hair, and I also cut Roxy's hair. Cutting her hair is much easier than cutting his... She moves less lol. I always cut around the top of her knows right between her eyes, cause the hair grows and get in there... and she stands so still!!! She is such a good girl... I just basically cut everything straight thats all around the same place... it always looks great... Thats why I want to get into Grooming. I am going to start looking for a place to train me... |
I have been doing hair for 17 years. I do groom both my Bichon and my Yorkie. Saves TONS of money! |
I do the grooming myself....with 4 standard poodles.....it saves a ton of money. I learned from a book and trial and error....and beleive me there were some errors. The best had to be the time I had one looking like Woody Wood pecker....lol.....poor lil thing. But, am very very pleased to say I do a good trim now. Enough so that I have my own grooming area complete with hydromassage and electric table. In my area the "Pet Something" shops want approx. $95 to $100 a trim for a standard size poodle. Ouchie!! |
