Nail Clipping..what angle do you cut? Someone had posted this link awhile back....which is really helpful... I wondered....do you hold your clippers like she does (vertical) or like scissors (horizontal)? If that makes sense? My vet holds hers like scissors (like you are cutting paper) and seems pretty easy...but the way this lady (in link) is holding hers, looks like it works really well! Okay...second....she said to cut at a slight angle up....I think I always just cut straight....so does everyone pretty much cut at an angle? One more...when filing...I couldn't really tell from the video clip....so you file from top of nail to bottom (underside) or side to side (like human nails)? THANKS!!! |
I cut straight across like scissors. I wouldn't want to cut on an angle because I think that would make the nail a bit sharp and easier to cut our gouge things and also I feel like it makes it a bit easier to cut the quick. I normally only cut a small piece off of the end every week when I bathe her. Right after the bath because I feel like her nails are softer from being in the warm water. |
I used to cut Tiger but not anymore as he has become too difficult to handle. Everytime he sees me with the clip he resists it yet at the groomer he just stands there and let them do it . . .makes me sooo mad  I have to have them lay on their back if I had to do it  I love how the doggie just stands there without making a fuss at all  why couldn't mine be like him  |
I have read that you are supposed to clip at a 45 degree angle. That conforms more to the way their feet touch the ground. This is the way I've always done it and have never had any problems.:) As far as the filing, I don't know. I have a nice file but I've never used it.:D |
I cut any which way that works cause Cali is so scared of the clippers! |
LilyGrace is good...she will stand and let me cut them....Mojo likes to be on his back in my lap...perferrably w/ a chewie or something. BUT I always trimmed theirs BEFORE bath...so I think I will start doing it afterwards, so their nails will be softer. I never cut it at an angle, but I can see where if the top part is left longer (angled out), that is the way the natural nail is (instead of straight across), so I will try that. I am hoping to get the pet filer (like a dremel) for my birthday, as I think that will make it easy....didn't it look easy in that video??? I don't think my two would sit/stand there to hand file it...that would take FOREVER!! THANKS EVERYONE!! |
