brushes and combs...which ones to use? I plan to get a yorkie with the next year and i want to be prepared. I know they need daily brushing and weekly baths but as far as brushes and combs, which ones are best for there coats? I'm on a budget so i cant buy mason P. but any recommendations? I don't plain to cut her hair myself so how often would she need to go to the groomers? I own 2 chihuahuas(one having tons of hair)and they get bathed twice a month unless they get dirty a lot and my long haired goes to the groomers once a month. Also what products are best for there coat? I'm sorry for asking all these questions but I've never owned a yorkie and i want to be as prepared and knowledgeable as possible. thank you so much :D |
You will need at least a metal comb (buttercomb) and a pin brush. The cheap ones are sharp and hurt many dogs, so they learn to hate grooming time. You will need to spend some $$$ to get some that will last you a long time and your new dog will not hate. I have Chris Christenson (pin brush)and also a Mason Pearson (detangler) I use Pure Paws products. The are very concentrated so you actually use very little with each bath. There are many products out there and others can tell you what they are using too. Whatever you use make sure it does not have alcohol in it. You will need a shampoo, conditioner and a leave in or spray on conditioner (for the daily brushing) I have also found having a small clipper is handy. I have a Wahl Pocket Pro that I really like. It runs on a AA battery. I have also purchased human personal trimmers, but they don't seem to cut hair very well for very long. |
I agree with Kathy 100%...I bought the CC brass fushion pin brush (20mm) and the dogs love it as much as I do!...If you look at a pin brush, test it out on your own arm...take the brush and brush you arm hard and see how it feels...Does it leave marks on you skin or hurt?..The CC brush doesn't leave any marks or hurt!..Some yorkies are more sensitive than others and the whole grooming expeirance will not be pleasurable if they are uncomfortable... http://www.chrissystems.com/brushes.htm I also use the original Greyhound anti-static comb..It glides right through their coat making grooming quick and pain free! http://greyhoundcomb.com/cart/index....products_id=23 These products will last you for years!..Just make grooming fun for them...They have to have it done for many years! ~Laura |
