Emu Oil Question First, my MIL gave me about 1/2 gallon of emu oil that she used for something.....BUT it smells old:( :confused: It is possible for emu oil to be old? I think she said she bought it last spring and I would think it would still be good? Second, I used some on Mojo and LilyGrace today in the bath.....But I either did something wrong or used to much because they are little furry grease balls! If you use emu oil, would you please share how much you use, how you use it, etc. ie...do you put it on before shampooing, etc. THANKS :hug: |
I use Emu oil on mine after thier bath. I use only 2-3 drops and rub it in my hands, then rub my hands all over them, then comb it thru. It really helps while drying and brushing them out. I also use a drop or two between baths while brushing them if there are any tangles. |

I don't think it's old - it just smells like that - I have a tiny bottle and it STINKS too and lol - ya - you used too much - just a tiny bit to condition the coat is good - if you can stand the smell lol |
Liquid Gold! Jenn!!!! 1/2 gallon of EMU OIL????? Great Balls of Fire!!!! You hit paydirt!!!! I paid $35.00 plus shipping for a 4 ounce bottle!!! Give that Mamma a great big hug. :) Emu Oil is a fantastic product. I can sing enough praises about the product. I give Chattie a few drops daily as a "treat". She loves it and it has improved her dry coat condition considerably. After baths with MinkSheen, I put 5 or 6 drops in the palm of my hands and rub them together and work it through their hair. It works miracles. They might appear slightly oily at first, but within a short time all of the oil will be absorbed into their hair. A fantastic side effect is that it makes my hands feel wonderfully soft. I will be using it on my incision as soon as it heals over to help prevent scaring. Emu oil has natural anti-bacterial qualities and acts as a "carrier agent". Ok.... so I'll get off my soap box :) |
You can either put 1 or 2 cap fulls in their last rinse water, or apply it after they are dried......rubbing it into their coat......Remember because of the build up of oil, you must do a clarifying shampoo about every 4th bath....The whole purpose of of it is to protect the coat from breaking... It's wonderful...but, a bit expensive....so a wonderful alternative is Almond oil....I've been using it on my show coats and works great. |

grooming My Topaz needed to be groomed and I have been doing it myself but he had a lot of knots so I decided to have him properly groomed and get most of his hair cut off and start over. I took him to pet smart and told them exactly what I wanted. When I picked him up they had cut the hair over the bridge of his nose so close it was bleeding and under his front leg it was cut so close there was no hair left. I am so sorry I took him there. He is with me all the time and I know he cried in pain. I felt so bad for him but I will not tale him to another groomer. I will learn to do it myself. Any hints would be welcome. |
