Br-r-r-r-r-r-r Well, the chill has arrived and I'm looking for wardrobe advice. Johnny was a bit cold when he had his first potty outing this morning at 6:15. What is a yorkie's tolerance for the cold? When is it time to start dressing the furbabies for the cold? :aimeeyork |
My boys are good at 5 below, but they have to be in coats, booties and keep moving. The secret is to ease them into it. Don't expect your pup to want to do a long walk in the cold the first time. Do a short one and make it as fun as you can. Then gradually lengthen the walks. I only use booties when the snow comes, which for us looks like maybe tonight! |
If you are cold then your baby is cold! When I had a yorkie and was living in the states I would begn her sweater wearing when I had to and I made sure she had booties for the icy mornings and snowy mornings. When it got even colder and I needed a coat, she wore a coat. That's the gauge I used. I don't dress my babies now, they go au natural but I do make sure they don't spend very much time in the sun, it can be horribly hot here from about May until November so I make sure they have air conditioning and only go out in the sun long enough to get some fresh air and do their business, play time is done in doors so they don't get over heated so I have the opposite problem to you. Hope you have fun shopping for your baby's wardrobe! |
First thing in the morning, my FOUR won't take time to put on coats or sweaters, they run out and pee.....fast!!! |
Thank You Every time I post, I get great responses...just shows how much love everyone has for their babies. |
My girls are both under 5 lbs with thinner coats of fur, so they both get cold really easily (and overheated as well). Mine have been wearing their flannel nighties to bed for about a month now, so they have those on when they go out for their first potty in the chilly morning. These colder days without the furnace on mean that they are dressed daily, though I do keep them dressed throughout the winter as well. Most summer days they are au natural unless we are going out and then they have a harness on. And, welcome to YT!!! |

Morgan is 4lbs and in a puppy cut so she doesn't have much hair to keep her warm. For potty breaks she just runs out into the backyard to do what she has to do and then runs back in. She's only out for 2 minutes max so no coat or booties. If we're going for a walk she gets a hoodie or jacket put on. I think its fine for them to go without a coat if its just outside for a 30 second pee and then back in. |

We don't get many cold days here, but if I'm cold then I put sweaters on them. They go so fast when it is cold that it takes me longer to put the sweaters on and off then it does for them to go. |
