Metro North Railroad with Dog I was wondering if the Metro North Railroad allows you to go on their train with your dog? I wanted to take the train to the city with my dog but am not sure if it is possible. Has anyone taken this train with their dog? |
When I was visiting NY I took the subway from Queens to Manhattan with Zippy, none of the MTA employees said anything. I kept him in a big tote bag, with his head sticking out and he kept really quiet all on his own. I think as long as your pet is in a carrier and not disturbing (barking, growling, pooping, etc.) anyone you should be ok. In the worst case scenario if someone does say something, tell them you are going into Manhattan to see a veterinary specialist that only has an office in Manhattan. |

Cabs are totally ok with that. Quite a few people who live there do not own cars, so cabs and trains is their only transportation for shopping and taking pets to Vets. parks and such. I do know that trains that go cross country don't allow dogs though. |
I never had to take a cab in NY, all ways by subway. Again, I think it goes back to as long as your pet is contained they will be more than happy to take your money. There is a pet taxi in NY, but I think that is more for large size dogs. |
i live in the city and i take cody on the subway, taxi, bus, no problems. i've seen dogs on the metro north before, medium sized, and just loose, but i did get kicked off the LIRR railroad before when i had cody in a bag. they said that he had to be in a crate or have a muzzle on. but then again i think the guy was just a jerk cause i've had him on LIRR on 3 other times with no problems. |
Great. I am glad it's OK to take them on the train and cabs. I will try it out in October. |
Hope all goes well on your excursion to the city. |

Have fun in the city :) , subways allow dogs - I checked their website a while back when I was thinking of taking Pepper with me for a city outing one day, as long as the dog is confined in a bag or a travel tote |

My yorkie Mckenna did great on the trains yesterday. On Metro North, we kept her out of the bag and she just sat on my lap and looked out the window the whole time. I don't even think the ticket person noticed her, he was just clipping tickets and kept going. We put her back in the bag before we got off Metro North. While we were walking to the subway, we were stopped by a police officer who told us to make sure we keep her in the bag while we ride the subway. Mckenna was so scared when the train came in the station that she started shaking and curled up in a ball on one side of the bag. Once we got off the train though and outside, we let her out and she was her happy self again. She had a great time meeting all of the dogs, small and big! Overall, I think that if the dog is not disturbing anyone, it's fine to bring them on public transportation. I plan on bringing Mckenna with me from now on when I need to make quick trips into the city. |
