Has anybody dealt with Dr. Lesser, Farmingdale, Long Island? My 10 month old girl Twiggy has LCP and most likely needs to have her femoral head removed. Does anybody know anything about Dr. Arnold Lesser at NY Veterinary Specialty Center in Farmingdale? We have an appointment with him this morning. Also, what does the operation and follow-up treatment generally cost for this type of operation? Any info is greatly appreciated. NO but I am sorry to hear about your baby. I hope everything turns out good. Please keep us posted. We do have many people from that area on the forum. |
Please Listen... Mam, I urge you to take your dog to Bide A Wee in Wantagh for a check up. I know nothing of your vet, but I will tell you it is a NON PROFIT vet that does it for the love of the animals and NOT to make money. I took my babies to a local vet they charged me around 800 dollars and said my male had Lyme Disease. IT WAS A LIE They gave them vaccines they didnt need, tests they didnt need and they just preyed on me because I love my animals. I then went to the Bide A Wee by me in Westhampton Beach. My dogs are healthy and well- had NO Lyme disease and needed no treatment. Joseph |
Hi there... I took Roxy for a consult there for her Luxating Patella's in her rear legs. They are EXTREMELY expensive, but none the less, they are professionals and will do the job. I didn't care for my consult and I went for a second opinion. I went to the Center for Specialized for Vet Care in Westbury. I saw Dr. Hinton there and we went ahead with the surgery by her. If you need to talk about anything, PM me, I here whenever! Here is the website: http://www.vetspecialist.com/ |
Thanks for your replies! We went to see Dr. Lesser at New York Veterinary Specialty Center on Thursday and the surgery costs around $3,000.00 (including 3 1-hour physical therapy sessions@$95.00 each)! This is surgery for an FHO/Femoral Head Ostectomy. The consult itself was $140.00 on top of that. This must be top dollar? I liked Dr. Lesser and the center is very professional, clean and quiet. (Maybe it's quiet because few can afford to go there). I went ahead and scheduled her for July 27th, but I had misgivings even before I read your replies. Maybe I should get a second opinion. I will do and pay whatever it takes to help Twiggy, but I don't have a lot of money and it won't help anyone including her or her brother Rocco if I spend what I have unnecessarily. If you get a second opinion it will cost you another $100+ for a consult with a Specialist. They are Specialist and they are professional. If you feel confortable than stick with them. I have never heard anything bad at all about them, it was just how I felt after my consult, that's all! Best of Luck and keep us posted ;) |

This decision about a surgeon is all complicated for me because my little boy, Monster, died in January. He was only 13 months old. He went in for surgery (not with Dr. Lesser but someone else) on his hip and knee but he had a reaction to the anesthesia, his heart went out of control. I'll never get over the shock of his death. There is always a risk involved in surgery. I'm terrified but in the meantime Twiggy is in pain and I have to help her. I'm so sorry your little girl needs to have an FHO done. The price you were quoted seems about right. I think your right for wanting a board certified orthopedic surgeon to do it. I work for one in jersey. I have not heard of dr. lesser tho. If you felt comfortable with him then i say have it done there. TLC speaks highly of dr. hinton who is also a good surgeon. If you want a second opinion then i suggest going to see dr. hinton, but you will be charged another consult fee. The recovery after an FHO is a long road but not as long as a knee surgery. restriction is key. Not letting your dog run, jump, or play helps keep the activity down which will help let the hip heal. Walks are an important part of the recovery as well. At first the walks need to be short and few. the walks can be lengthened after a few weeks. |
