Where to have surgery on LI luxating patella My baby needs surgery on his stage 3 luxating patella. I am unsure where/who should perform this surgery. Has anyone used LIV in Plainview or Specialized Vet Care in Westbury? All opinions are appreciated! Anne |
Hi and Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your baby's knee. There's a ton of info on this site about lp. As a matter of fact, if you do a search you'll find posts by TLC. I know she also lives on LI and has posted her surgeon's name and hospital. I'm in NJ and if you're willing to come here, I can recommend my surgeon. He's within 1/2 hour of NYC in the Fairfield/West Caldwell area. Just be careful in your search....make sure the Surgeon is Board Certified in Orthopaedics. It makes a huge difference in my opinion. There's also different "versions" of the surgery. One is a simple deepening of the groove in the knee cap and the other involves "pinning" of the lower leg. The first version is usually represented by a lower price for the surgery but in the past few years surgeons have been performing the more entailed surgery. Good Luck to you and your baby! |
TLC had her yorkies surgery done out on LI and i'm sure she'll see this thread and post about her experience and vet. Yorkiemalt also went to an excellent board certified orthopedic surgeon  i hear he's pretty good. :D |
Anne, It was so nice to talk with you this afternoon. I hope I was able to answer some of your questions. Rex is going to fine, regardless of the place you choose. I do believe that they are both quailifed. You just need to get some of your concerns answered and then that will help you make the finally decision. Keep in touch! I'd love to hear what your husband thinks of Dr. Hinton and then of course which place you finally picked! We are all here for you, so ask as many questions as you'd like! ;) |
Thank you all for your insight and support. Nicole, you spent SO long on the phone with me today sharing information I can't thank you enough. I feel certain of the decision to have the surgery and just need to get my questions answered about the board certification, etc, and then I am hoping Rex can have his surgery around the 17th- I am fortunate to have found this board and all of you!
