What do you know about mass dog food recall? My Rylie is a 2 yr old male & Layla is an 8 month old female, both Yorkies. Both are perfectly normal in everyway. Last week out of the blue, both got sick with vomitting and diarrhea that started getting bloody. Desperate at 4am, I took them to AMC in the Upper East Side Manhattan and they were both given IV and antibiotics but I never got a reason why they were sick. Later I read that Iams food was part of the huge pet food recall. Although Menu Foods website states it's only recalling wet food (the food I was giving my Yorkies was Iams dry food) I threw the food away. I figure it's better to be safe than sorry-- who knows if the recall will widen to include dry food eventually? Does anyone know any more details or have you been dealing with symptoms/effects from using Nutro, Iams, Eukanuba or any of the other brands that are part of the recall? Currently I am feeding both my babies Hills Science (wet) mixed with Cesars (wet) but from everything I've read, the recall could grow to include more brands and types...it's amazing that a lot of pet foods share ingredients from the same manufacturing source, virtually affecting nearly every brand out there-- I though Iams & Eukanuba were supposed to be higher end pet products?!? Can anyone shed some light on their experiences? |
I feed them butchers with any old dog biscuits... they love it yous hould try, also banans and cheese they likle as treats! |
From what I have read here, neither Eukanuba nor Iams are high end. There are more natural and healthier foods out there, with more meat content. |
Cooking for your dogs is probably your best bet, there are many suggestions on this forum on how to do that. If that's not a possibility, visit this site: www.dogfoodanalysis.com 4 star and 5 star are supposed to be the best for yorkies. Read the reviews and info on each of them. Good luck! |
Here is the list from Menu foods. http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html You can click on the specific brand and it will tell the type and specific dates of the recalled products. I checked one in particular (Nutro) and found that Menu Foods is contracted to produce only a portion of that companies canned and pouch foods. It does not produce any of Nutro's dry food. So, no reason right now to believe the recall will be widened. It happens with people food too. Just recently Peter Pan and Walmarts Great Food Peanut Butters were recalled. But only certain product numbers and production dates -- same as with the dog food. |
There have now been some problems with Iams dry food too.........so anyone who is feeding this, then please stop. What a nightmare all this is!!! |
Goodness gracious, it's just terrible...I think most people stopped feeding the dry foods of the foods on the recall list. |
