Please dont buy from stores, they all come from puppy mills :(

dopemimi1129 11-15-2008 05:25 PM

hey natalia ! im from brooklyn as well and im searching for a yorkie to be a wonderful addition to my home . now, before i purchase a puppy my parents insist that i do TONS of research . i did notice puppy boutique, when i googled puppy shops in bk . i researched them and got HORRIBLE feedback. ive read that the puppies are treated sooo poorly :[ . when i did visit, the service was horrible. when one of the women that worked there, asked if we were purchasing a puppy today, and we replied no - she rudely walked away. she also took forever to let a yorkie out of the cage so we could hold her . we observed that many of the yorkies were sleeping. a woman beside us whispered that she noticed vomit in one of the cages. and to top that , the same rude worker pulled out another puppy from the back of the store and it looked like DEATH. such a horrible experience :[ . i am a newbie so excuse on of my terms that sound a little off. but so far the whole YT family seems friendly and they are SO helpful. natalia good luck and i hope my response was some what helpful. maybe we could even keep each other posted ; one bk chick to the next ;]

My friend got a yorkie from here that died of coccidia after one week of having him. This is a puppy mill pet store. I live in NYC and I flew out of town to get my yorkie. I would really recommend doing your research and finding a akc breeder. Do not buy a dog from this pet store/

I traveled all the way to NYC to pick up a puppy that I thought would be the same one that Puppy Petite emailed me a picture of. It wasn't, however I purchased him anyway. Before traveling to NYC, the owner emailed me and told me the prices for their "teacup yorkies" were between $500-$1500; however, they were realistically between $1000-$2500. I purchased my baby for $1600...only for him to die 2 weeks later due to congenital problems.

When my puppy initially got sick I took him to the vet and was told he'd have to be hospitalized. I immediately called Puppy Petite to see how they wanted to handle paying for his hospital bill because in their "guarantee" they state that they'll cover all medical expenses if it's due to congenital disorder. Puppy Petite told me that they would not reimburse me unless I took the puppy to one of their vets in NYC. Can you believe they wanted me to bring my puppy 400+ miles to NYC in order for them to cover the vet expenses? My vet estimated the costs to be $2000+ dollars and there was no guarantee that my puppy would survive. Due to the high costs, I chose to have my puppy stabilized and transported to NYC with an IV to Puppy Petite’s vet so they could cover the costs. My puppy eventually died due to a congenital disorder and Puppy Petite refused to give me a new puppy or a full refund for the purchase price. I'm still trying to battle with them to receive a refund.

Please do not purchase from this pet store, they have negative ratings from Consumer Reports and have changed their business name a couple of times to stay in business. They are also known as Puppy Boutique.

The same thing happened to my best friend and she took them to small claims court and won!!! It had nothing to do with the money but the principal- this store is disgusting. Not only did she buy a sick puppy but that puppy got her other yorkie sick!!!! I'm so sorry for your loss- hopefully someone will learn from your awful experience.

myspace

Hey I actually saw their page on Myspace and I messaged the person and he promised me if I came in person he would give me a dog for 700 just because I had a pretty face. He wasn't professional at all and cared more about getting a date than telling me about the puppies when I asked for information. I think they're a puppy mill as well be careful.

I wonder if you got your doggie yet.
My friend got her Yorkie from this guy named Henry who is a breeder in NJ
She loves the breeder and loves the puppy too. She saids he suported her all the way.

Puppy Petite - Stay Away

I wished I have seen this tread last November when I was looking for a puppy. It would have saved me a trip to NY.
Puppy Petite
THEY ARE HORRIBLE
HORRIBLE PLACE
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I hope someone can take them out of business because that's not the way to treat those little cuties.

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

msjagg 01-01-2009 11:05 PM

First off, Hi and Welcome to Yorkie Talk...:wavey::welcome4::yorkietal Be very careful of Greenfield Pets. com and Lancaster puppies.com... If you look @ the Breeders names you will see that they're Amish and PuppyMills. Stay away from them. They pose them with cute little wagons,Beanis Babies and such. But, They're still PuppyMills. Be very careful who you buy from. Please do not go to a pet store, too many puppymill pups and brokers there. I wish you good-luck in finding your baby. Be patient and the right one will come along... :yorkiesar:goodluck:

Did you know that they get there puppies delivered to them on a big truck.
Truthfully Prepare Now with a bank account if you already don't have one Because Coming from a Puppymill There could be Any Health Problems & it can be very expensive.

Please DO NOT buy a puppy from Puppy Petite. They are horrible! If you go to their website it dosent seem like they get their puppies from mills, but then when you email them, they tell you that you have to come to their house to see the puppies, and then their house is a pet store! Its horrible

That's Great New's! I hope it's the same for the future.
Please do some research on some health problem's in petstore puppies.

Also behavioral Problems.

"Obedience instructors and canine behavioral consultants will be happy to tell you about the temperament and behavior problems that develop in many pet shop puppies as they grow up.

Bad temperament shows up later. Most pet shop puppies start out playful and friendly, but as they mature, their genes begin to assert themselves. If their parents or grandparents had shy or aggressive or hyperactive temperaments, those genes will show up during adolescence and adulthood.

Many pet shop puppies are nippy. Some were removed from their mother before 7 weeks of age, a critical period of time where she teaches them "bite inhibition." Some have learned to nip from interacting with so many potential owners wandering through the pet shop, including kids who tug and play roughly. Most of these potential owners thought the nipping was cute, didn't correct the puppy for it, and so the habit becomes entrenched.

Housebreaking can be a problem. Finally, raised in a small cage in which they're encouraged to eliminate freely, pet shop puppies are notoriously difficult to housebreak."

I agree. We should let as many people know as we can to stay away from places like this one :(

Bad breeders--or Petshops

I read these posts with interest. I dont usually post any responses--but just this one time i will. I know some of you dont have yorkies yet and are in the research and "looking" stages. I would offer the following advice: (1) Dont buy from a pet store--these pups come from puppy mills. Most of them are shipped in on short notice, and in transport can acquire illnesses- such as Giardia, Coccidia, Parvo, Kennel Cough. The Pet Shop may be clean, but you dont know where the pups came from, and who or what they were exposed to on the way to the Pet Store in question. When most reputable breeders import dogs into their kennels, they place new pups in isolation for a ten day period(yes, they still get cuddled, and watched over, and cared for well) but, they dont jeopardize their kennel. When you get ready to buy a yorkie, or other pup--be sure to go to the Owner or Breeder's home. Make sure you see the parents of the pup you are looking at. Make sure the mom even has fuller breasts and looks like this is her pup. Look at the kennel, and how clean it is, how good it smells, what shape the other dogs are in, how they respond to their owner's and your touch, and what the pups are acting like. Are they clear eyed, are the coats nice, are they energetic and confident and are they playing with the others well. If this is not enough, ask for references, as many as you need to satisfy you--and actually email or call these people. Ask them about their experiences with the breeder or owner. Finally, ask what type of guarantee they are giving you for the pup. Will they cover any congenital defects that make themselves known before the pup is a year old. Sometimes pups will seem well at the first vet check but problems crop up later--this has happened to just about all breeders at one time or another. If they have never had an issue, they are not being truthful. Things happen. All you can do as a prospective new yorkie owner is to ask alot of questions, really observe the surroundings when you are looking at a pup, really watch the pup yourself and check the references given you before you buy from them. Good luck.

 Very well said. People please educate yourselves about puppymills. You can just go to youtube and type puppymill and you will see the horror places that those poor puppies come from. You can search here on the forum by typing in puppymill in the search. We are at one point or another didnt know any better, but it is very important to educate yourself. Once you view those videos and check the forum you will not want to buy a puppy from the store. My signature says it all.

I live near NYC and have come upon a place called Puppypetite in Brooklyn. Has anyone had any experience with these people? Good or bad? The website is Puppy Petite NYC Quality Puppies For Sale They said they offer a one year health guarantee and a couple free vet visits, as well as a chance to have the puppy checked out by your own vet. What do you think?

Thanks! Natalia

hey i actually bought my yorkie from puppypetite in brooklyn and i am absolutely happy with her, shes my little angel. they are a very trust worthy store and i would like to make it clear that none of their puppies come from mills. they do offer a one year health guarantee and free vet visits. we live in pa and my yorkie is a little over a year old. since then she has had to go to the vet once and they reinburst us for the vet bills, and they also gave us vitamins for the her for up to a year. i do reccommend that you do buy your puppy from them you will be very happy you did. also unlike many other pet stores who claim to be selling teacup yorkies and then grow to be 10 pounds, their dogs stay true to their size (my baby is 3 pounds). one thing i think you should be warned about because no pet store will tell you this and it is what i am goin through now with my yorkie is they may develop liver problems. if you do decide to buy your puppy from them, take advantage of the 14 days and have your puppy checked for liver shunts. hope my info helped you. oh one more thing their puppies are already trained to go on pee pee pads.

They should Not be selling Puppies with liver shunt They could have been prevented This tell's you right there that none should be buying from them.

A healthy Puppy does not need antibiotics.

She said her baby has Liver shunt That is not a good thing.

Welcome. I know it's hard to wait when you decide you want a Yorkie, but like everyone's telling you it doesn't sound like such a great place. Look in our two yorkies for sale sections, and put in a post under puppies wanted. It's better to wait a little longer, and make sure you get a healthy dog.

i love her with all my life

I got my pup from Puppy Petite before I knew any better. I should had done my research beforehand but I didn't, it was an impulse buy. I thank god I've been lucky and at 9 months she has been healthy up to this date. I did my research on my specific pup with all the info she came with and she came from Missouri, which means puppymill. Meanwhile the store stated my pup came from a local breeder, which was a total lie. I dont think anyplace that really cares about there pups would ship their dogs to a pet store at such a young age, I purchased her when she was 9 weeks old. Took my dog to the the vet and the vet said there was no need for antibiotics for a healthy dog. I worry constantly about her health cause I have no idea where she really came from. Now that I've done my research and know better I would never shop from them again nor any other pet store. There customer service was not good at all. They were helpful when I came into the store but the moment I decided which pup I wanted I became invisible and all they saw was the money. They didnt answer any of my questions but I had already fallen in love with my pup so I didnt care at the time. People should really do their research before they decide from where to get your pups from.
