Can't find South Jersey breeders.... There are very few people selling yorkies in Southern New Jersey, near Cape May County. Does anyone know of any reasonably priced breeders? I know of one, but the Yorkies are $800. I'm looking for less than $300-400. I guess that is unrealistic. I wish I could get one from a shelter. |
Even rescues are out of your price range. Good luck. |
I found one on Puppyfind that is about 2 hours away. How do you know if a Puppyfind breeder is reputable or not. |

Price is an indicator. There have been news reports out lately that ppl are stealing yorkies and selling them at very cheap prices, along w a sad rehoming story to cover up that they are a stolen animal. Be careful to a dog that is too cheap. This is an indicator that the dam and sire have probably not had proper testing or proper vet care. This is usually a puppy mill. We have them in an area close to where I live. You can get a "purebred dog" cheap, but they were raised in puppy mills. If I were you, I would apply to a rescue or take some time to save up money to get a yorkie from a reputable breeder. Often these "cheap dogs" from disreputable breeders cost a lot of money at the vet bc of illnesses and congenital defects. Some more clues are they place dogs before 12 weeks of age. The parents are not on premises and not available to be seen. Pedigrees are not shown. They will sell an unlimited registration to anyone. They advertise outrageously small sizes. There is no health guarantee. They are willing to ship very small animals. |
I appreciate your comment. The dog I was looking at on Puppyfind was $350. He is 4 months old. The others that are young puppies are going for $450, and the females are $700. I don't know anything about him, though, which is always a concern. :/ Perhaps I will keep looking.... Quote:

Have you also tried rescues? They sometimes have younger dogs. There is Save a Yorkie Rescue, United Yorkie Rescue, Rescue Me. |
Also found this little boy in SOS Rescue (in NJ). Adopt a Pet :: Winston - southern, NJ - Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier If none of these seem to have what fits with your family, I hope you find a fit. |
Thank you. I thought Winston was adorable, but unfortunately I don't have a fenced yard. No one in my town has one... So, it's tough to get a shelter to even look at my application. That's why I have to buy one. :( |
i would never let my babies out without a leash. even in a fenced in yard. hawks can get at them easily and they are a very stolen breed. you maybe able to find a older yorkie at a shelter for your price range or a mut/mix which are cute for a pet |

I spent a lot of time in training them. |
I've been having an awful time dealing with shelters. :/ I finally found one that we could have, and we were just about to drive an hour up north.... when we got the call. "Oh, the owners came and got him." Um.... what? Two weeks after he went missing, they just waltzed in? |

Good luck with your search. My Cozy was a rehome from the breeder-her first owner was diagnosed with cancer and she did not want to be poor mom to Cozy so she gave her back to the breeder to rehome. Unfortunately, Cozy's breeder has since moved out of state. |
I don't think the shelters here are kill shelters. Which is why it is SO hard to get a yorkie. It's amazing, really. And the one rescue I saw had an 18 page application with a fee.... just to do the application. And I realized it wasn't a full yorkie... It sure didn't look like it. :/ But I am sad, because I was so close to getting a dog from another shelter, and then it was taken away so suddenly. At this point, I want to buy a purebred one (since we are allergic to mixes). But there aren't even breeders in the southern half of New Jersey. Ugh. Quote:
