Pets Pets Pets - Somerset, NJ Hi everyone! I'm looking for a male Yorkie and have been doing my research on them and reputable breeders. It's been difficult to find breeders in NJ though. They either don't have any available pups at the moment, hard to differentiate if they are back yard breeders, or way over-charge their pups. I know the phrase 'you get what you pay for' but I thought that reputable breeders are supposed to find great homes for their pups over making money? Which leads me to my question. I came across the pet store Pets Pets Pets, which is located in Central Jersey. I know many dogs from pet stores come from puppy mills, but supposedly this pet store gives breeder info to their potential buyers in regards to the pup that they're interested in. I haven't visited the store yet, but they also supposedly socialize their pups a lot and their employees even bring pups home to get accustomed to a home setting. Does anyone know any information about this store? Positive or negative? And, if anyone comes across this and have available male Yorkies in the Tri-state area (hopefully within several hours of Central Jersey), I would be delighted to speak to you. Even if the litter isn't available yet for several months, that's fine. I'm in no rush to get a pup. I rather take the time to research and find 'the one' instead of rushing into such a commitment. Thank you for any assistance and/or guidance that you may provide me!! |
When it comes to pet stores, this is the only thing I ask myself: If I was a breeder, and as you say want nothing but good homes for my pups, why would I then give my dog to someone else to place? If I'm a breeder, I want to know where the pups go, who their new homes will be, and I would want to do a background check. My conclusion, a breeder that lets their dogs go to a place that sells to anyone that walks in the door is not a good reputable breeder. I want a breeder who cares about their puppies as much as I (potential new home) care for them. Have you tried the YTCA? Sometimes you have to wait until a litter becomes available, but it will be worth it. Also, screening the breeder is VERY important. |
Thank you for your response! I do agree with you. I thought about that aspect as well, but just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about the store. In regards to YTCA, I actually have been on that site and have tried emailing all of the breeders in NJ. The site is very, very out of date. Half the email addresses don't work and the contact info for the board of directors and those in charge list the 'current' year to be 2008 or something. I know a lot of users on this forum suggest YTCA, but it's just so out of date. That's why I'm kind of at a stand still right now in terms of reputable breeders in the Tri-State area. Thank you for your advice though, I will keep what you said in mind! |

I can't think for 1 repeatable breeder I have ever know who would sell an animal through a pet store. So much work goes into properly breeding, caring for, and raising baby animals that a breeder would want to ensure the puppy/kitten is going to a great home. Buying directly from the breeder you can build a relationship and has a research for questions because the breeder knows the animals genetics. I am still in regular contact with the new owners of the 6 puppies I sold from 2 litters. Not breeding now. 3 out of 4 of mine are spayed. |
I am a breeder in NJ, and I would NEVER place my puppies at a pet store, I have a gorgeous silky litter right now, I will send you a pm incase you are interested. carmen |
