Prozyme? Hi there, we went to the vet yesterday and the doc gave me a bottle of Prozyme to sprinkle in Maxi's food and said that I have to put a pinch of the powder in his food everytime he eats. Does anyone else have to do this? He is a good eater, I just dont want to mess anything up.:confused::( Thanks! |
did the vet say why you have to give the prozyme. it won't hurt the dog; it's just some digestive enzyme; i just wonder why you have to give it to a puppy; maybe the puppy is not digesting the food fully ?? |

if the poop is big then the puppy is not digesting well; the nutrients are going out in the poop instead of staying in the body; however you mentioned that you are giving pro pac; and thats garbage food. please switch food asap to something without corn or byproducts; and i dont think u need the prozyme; he's still a puppy and able to digest his own food without any enzymes; however you need to give the right food; natural balance duck and potato; or halo wild salmon; anything natural go to petco into the hollistic and natural food section; usually in the back of the store; maybe a bit expensive but well worth it; don't swtich food at once; the puppy stomach is sensitive and need to adjust; put 1/4 new food and 3/4 old food for 2 days; then 1/2 and 1/2 for 2 days; then 3/4 new and 1/4 old for 2 days; then you can totally switch to new food. |
May I ask what you're feeding him? Most good quality foods contain enough natural enzymes to aid digestion that supplementation isn't usually needed unless there's a medical condition. |

I'm not familiar with pro pac. But, there's no harm in giving your pup Prozyme if that's what your vet says to do. |
Little question.....is the poo a brown color? If it's yellowish then that is an entirely different story. Cocoa weighs 3 lbs. and has had huge stools all of her life. Never could understand. Then all of a sudden her stools became yellowish. Turns out she has EPI....the pancreas is not producing an enzyme necessary to digest her food. Carbs are more difficult to digest than protein. She is now on an enzyme that comes from an animal's pancreas and on a 1-carb, no-grain kibble. Stools are now tiny and brown. The vet thinks that she has had difficulty digesting food all her life but it has just come to a head. Possibly the pancreas is atrophying. Do hope not because that will mean diabetes. ~Joanne~ |
4doggiemama what do you mean that if the poop is yellow then there is a problem with pancreas; i am concerned because my dog has had yellow i mean bright yellow poop few times; and can you please elaborate on Possibly the pancreas is atrophying. Do hope not because that will mean diabetes. the vet did check the lipase level this past saturday and her blood work and she said no problem; but i would like to know more about what you meant. |
