Looking for yorkie in nyc Hi, I am located in Manhattan and have been looking for a yorkie for 2 weeks and I'm having trouble finding one. Are there any breeders you places you can recommend and places to avoid? I'm not looking for places that ship to new york because I'd like to see my puppy before i get it. |
i'm also willing to drive an hour or two .. after the 1st of july |
You could try Watchung Mountains Yorkshire Terrier Club breeder referral, but call on phone. They don't seem to reply to email. |
I purchased my lovely Morkie puppy at petite pets (NOT puppy petite). They are really nice and definitely care for their pups. the address is 2385 New York Avenue Huntington Station NY 11746 Telephone:(631) 424-6262 they work Tuesday to Sunday from 10am- 5pm. ill post a link to the website but they do not post or hold puppies on it. It simply holds information on the boutique. They have yorkie, maltese, morkie, shorkie, Shihtzus and shihtese pups and keep the place very clean. if you have any questions just send me a message. Good Luck! :animal-pa |

There is also an older yorkie (not sure of age, but looks maybe 2?) located in Stamford, CT he is listed at Adopt a Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie: Stretch: Petfinder |
Hi there, there are lots of good breeders- PLEASE DO NOT GO TO A PET STORE- i know how hard it is when youy feel like you can't wait a minute more for one-i'm not sure whoi was listing pet stores for you!!!!! But it will only pomote (as i'm sure you know) the puppy mill industry and possibly cause you great heartache if they have heriditary problems that could and should have been screened for. I just had to put my 13 year old yorkie to sleep who hd many health prolems i had to manage b/c i didn't know any better and got her from a "posh pet store" on the upper east side. (won't mention names) but, if you go to the Yorkshire terrier club of America- they list breedes by state. there are some in NY and many in NJ as well. years ago (so this is all "hear say") i heard great things about Jack moffet in NJ. But with some time investd on the phone just going down the list- you can get a good sense of who you like and who will have puppies when you are ready. And, the good breeders - even if busy will usually be ready to be very helpful to help you aviod pitfsall and reccomed other breeders if they cannot provide what you are loking for. Best of luck w/ finding your new "baby" And please ....don't give into the petstore sempation b/c it's conveinet or you jmight hace to wait longer though a breeder. Belive me..it will be worth the wait to know you have a quility dog and not putting $$ into the hands of inhumane mill breeders =) |
sorry for the typos above hey there- sorry, i tried to edit my post but it timed me out! Also, just wanted to say that since most breeder go to the same shows and most know one another- if someone you call does not have what you are looking for at the moment- they most likely know of other breeders who are expecting puppies and can refer you. Also...while you wait...you can always focus on getting your new puupies crate/pen ready ...buy a nice bed and toys and look into who might be a good trianer of small dogs in your area if you need one- and you can read lots of books an training and puppy development as well to pasxds the time. So....since my dog just passed away...i would like another one ASAP....but i have to wait as well. But believe me- it will be worth it in the long run to go through a reputable breeder who wants to know a lot about you ...not just sell you thier dog and never talk to you again. best of luck again!!!:animal36 |
Good luck with your search, but again, whatever you do, please do not buy from a pet store. I got Duke from a breeder who I'm now thinking is a backyard breeder otherwise I would rec'd you to her. Good luck and know that it might take a while until you find one that you enjoy and is healthy. |
thank you all for responses :) i've read all of them and also contacted a lot of breeders and asked about their yorkies, and i'm still looking. Feel free to keep them coming, you guys have been great  |
