Yorkie Food Hi, I just got my Max for my birthday. He is my first yorkie. I love him dearly. I have concerns about the food I am feeding him. He eats Science Diet for puppies only because the woman I got him from fed him that. After doing some research I realize that Science Diet is not really good although he loves it. I hear a lot about different foods such as RC, Eukanuba, Wellness. I just don't know what is best and how to transition Max to new food. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.:aimeeyork |
an excellent website about Dog Food- http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/ I stick to the 5 and 6 star foods. You can learn a lot about pet foods by reading the reviews. |
Hi, I got Duke 2 weeks ago, the breeder was feeding him Bil Jac (dry food), I added water to soften it for him (he's only 8 weeks old now). My vet recommended that i use some wet food for him, he suggested science diet actually. I now mix both of them with some water and Duke is eating it fine. He gained 5 oz in a week :). Hope this helps...i'm new at this too |
Foods Thank you both. I have decided on Wellness which seems to be a pretty good food. The dog food analysis seems like an interesting site which I will look into. Max is three months now and continues to bite. Is that a problem for any of you? |
Try natural varieties, its no grain wichh is best for all dogs. try looking at the Yorkie Health & Diet forum. i found out everyone enjoys it i checked reviews and everyone said nothing but great things. its nothing but the best. i havent tried it yet just because im still looking to get my first yorkie. there is even raw meats they can try. there is even coupons buy one get one free. |
I feed Merricks. I love the food and it's all natural. Good luck on choosing. When your ready to change the food you mix half a serving of the old and half a serving of the new for a few days before going on to the new food totally. That way baby's tummy doesnt' get upset. |
When I got Addison she was on Royal Canin. Since then we have switched to Natures Variety and it is awesome. Addy never had any problems with Royal Canin but my girlfriends yorkie developed food allergies at 4 years old and had to switch to a higher quality food with no corn and such. I decided to switch Addy simply to avoid any complications, as her yorkie Kiwi had scratched all the hair off her ears and tummy. She was so miserable but she is doing so much better! Good luck on your search for food, hope this helps! |

Lots of puppies will "bite" ..... they always need something to chew on. He isn't being aggressive when he does this is he? I would think he is just being a puppy. (try some chew toys that are safe) |
I feed Canidae dry and wet. Wellness is a very good food also. The others that you mentioned don't get a very high rating. Puppies with bite when they play. Like a couple of the posters said, get him toys to chew on. He is probably teething and needs to chew. When he does try to chew on you tell him "NO"! |
my doggie is 1 yrs old and he eats science diet small bites for adults, and it was recommended for him by the vet. So i dont see how it is bad for them, but my friend feeds her yorkie wellness, and my dog eats wellness soft food once in a while. |
We just started feeding Chicken Soup, and my guys seem to really like it. I was feeding Natural Balance, but they seemed to get bored of it. Make sure you make the change over slowly, so you don't give your pup an upset stomach. |
